Wondering about a player, a past game or another issue involving the Bears? Senior writer Larry Mayer answers a variety of email questions from fans every day on ChicagoBears.com.
I was very surprised to hear Jerry Angelo say that finding a quarterback to compete with Kyle Orton would be his top offseason priority. Doesn’t he realize that the defense had more to do with the Bears’ failure to make the playoffs this season? Ray T. Orland Park, Illinois Having heard some people—including a few on sports radio—ask similar questions, I feel like I need to set the record straight. I was at Halas Hall for Jerry Angelo’s end-of-the-year press conference, and here are two facts: Jerry talked about issues relating to the defense for 10-15 minutes before mentioning anything about the quarterback position, and he never said that addressing the quarterback position was his top offseason priority. He spent so much time answering questions about the defense that I felt it would be beneficial to move onto another area, so I’m the one who asked him about Kyle Orton. Before that, Jerry talked about the defense’s lack of consistency, whether he would hesitate to cut players who haven’t performed up to expectations, if defensive coaches would be evaluated, and defensive coordinator Bob Babich’s future. Believe me, Jerry is well aware of the issues on defense. As far as the quarterback situation, Jerry stressed that he has confidence in Kyle Orton, but that he has to see more to be 100 percent convinced that Orton is the long-term solution. Jerry also said: “We’ve got to get the quarterback position stabilized. We’re fixated on that I don’t want us to lose sight of that. That position has to get righted.” I'm sorry, but he DID SAY that Runningbacks and Wide Receivers don't win games, leading one to only one conclusion. Or am i wrong?

Richardson withdraws bid to be commerce secretary More pay to play bullshit that surrounds Obama, but can't be linked to him, directly......... http://www.breitbart.com/print.php?id=D95G...;show_article=1 Pressure mounts over replacement for Clinton Wow, the Caroline Kennedy convinces her uncle to support Obama, and then she needs his help to get the senate seat? WHO KNEW? http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/6bfe48ea-d904-11...0077b07658.html Franken leads as Minn. recount nears finish line More of an indictment of Minnesota, but seriously, you are gonna put Al Franken in power? are you fucking stupid? The guy who admitted he lied to create his book about how Republicans are liars is gonna have a senate seat? JESUS FUCKIN CHRIST....... http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090104/D95G1OIG0.html I've chosen not to go into detail with any ONE article, but just to say that for any of you who seem to have thought that the Democrats cleaned up their evil ways after the Clinton years are smoking wayyyyyyyyyy too much. I suggest you lay down the pipe. Obama's involved with two separate scandals, though there shouldn't be any reason to think he had anything to do with them, but what a way to start a career, huh? The people you work with are scum? Remember, reputations are built by the company you keep.....I'm not a republican saying republicans are any or much better(they're still better than the clintons...), so don't take the childish, "How come when we do something, it looks bad, but what about them?!?!" defense, because it's only an indictment of having no argument.

What does this do for the Chicago Bears organization, that we jump the gun to find new defensive coaches to run this defense, and the place we look for is the worst team in NFL history? That Rod Marinelli is a strong candidate for the potentially vacant DC job, has to ring bells of warning from Halas Hall to the fans that we've no prestige in the league. If it wasn't before, how could it not be now? If somehow we don't take him, or just make him a D-line coach, and we still get rid of Babich, would anyone seriously take this job? Between that and Ron Rivera getting the axe for having a mind of his own, who would want this thankless, foreordained job leading straight to NFL hell? This defense won't get back to top 5, even if Lovie weren't a nepotist power hog. What are your pontifications on this predicament?
