City seeks to curb sex trade by impounding vehicles

HAMILTON — Men who pay for sex and get caught could lose their vehicle for awhile if it's used while committing the criminal offense.

That also applies to pimps, prostitutes, and anyone else in Hamilton whose vehicle is involved in soliciting or procuring sex, after city council members unanimously approved amending two ordinances Wednesday, Aug. 13.

Vehicles will be impounded or immobilized for 15 to 30 days on a first offense; 30 to 60 days on a second offense, according to the new penalties.

Vehicles were involved in nearly every soliciting arrest made this year, said Hamilton Police Chief Neil R. Ferdelman.

"We hope this will stop johns from coming into the area in a car and cruising for prostitutes," Ferdelman said. "It's an incentive to get their attention. We don't want them to do this anymore."

So far this year, there have been 54 arrests relative to prostitution, said Hamilton Police spokesman Sgt. Tom Kilgour. Prostitution is an ongoing problem in the city, and HPD's vice section usually conducts several sweeps a year in areas that are targeted following complaints from residents, Kilgour said.

In March, five men were arrested during a two-hour sting on East Avenue and Dixie Highway, according to police records. Police said the men offered $15 to $25 for sexual acts to a female police officer posing as a prostitute.

well, just making an observational point about crime and punishment. It may actually have no relevance here....but we are so quick to get behind stricter penalties (which means more funding for enforcement) and enjoying the crucifixion process, that it becomes a tail-wag-the-dog situation where we not so much want to stop behavior, but just bump up our stats in the enforcement area........I produce Exhibit A

On a lighter note my mother in law and her new husband are moving up here this weekend. It's his first time living outside of KY. He goes to the BP on the eastside and right hand to god he gets robbed LMMFAO!! His first night in Hamilton. I told Lorretta to tell him welcome to Hamilton don't shop on the east side. I bet thats the quickest 175.00 hes ever spent.

How far is hamilton from Cinci. I was in Cinci on Monday and Tuesday and someone said something about being in Hamilton. I thought you were closer to Columbus/Springfield.

Oh, and I've for $12.75 that I'll give to nail SWC's old lady, but only if she brings the girlfriend...LOL

Just north of Cinci. Maybe 30 miles or so. The best thing about living here is people from surrounding areas are afraid/think you are crazy. I've worked in West Chester and when you tell people your from Hamilton they all seem to stand back a few feet lol. We've been able to condence all the large city problems into a very small area.

LOL She would have to bring the girlfriend. I mean she has to get some enjoyment out of this.
