Russians Defeat "Captain America"... In Title
Unsurprisingly, Marvel Studios’ "Captain America: The First Avenger" will shorten its title to just "The First Avenger" in several key international territories when it's released later this summer reports The Los Angeles Times.
What is unexpected is the fact that this is only happening in three key countries
- Russia, Ukraine and South Korea.
The decision was made based on market research results with issues of 'brand management and consumer awareness' being the official reason rather than cultural or political sentiment.
The studios however were apparently pleasantly surprised only those three countries will be affected.
Whatever the global political sentiment about the U.S. is right now,
the Captain America character has very strong brand name recognition in most international markets which override considerations of sensitivity.
As a result the original title will be kept in all other markets.
The film is slated to be released throughout the world during the last two weeks of July and the first week of August.
