Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.
One of my absolute favorite films from the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year was director and co-writer Spencer Susser's celebration of anarchy in the household HESHER, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Natalie Portman, Rainn Wilson, and Piper Laurie.
I've got a review and really great interview with Susser still to come next week, but it should go without saying that this movie and these characters really shook me up, made me laugh, made me think, and made me care.
I think fans of Gordon-Levitt are going to be pleasantly shocked at the kind of character Hesher is (not a nice one).
The film is a dirty, filthy creature that shot through me like a double bolt of lightning. And when I was asked to do an exclusive AICN screening of HESHER, I didn't hesitate to say yes.
This Ain't It Cool News screening of HESHER will take place on Wednesday, May 11 at 7:30pm at the Landmark Century Center Cinema.
I've got about 150 seats to fill, so let's get to it. And if you guys don't come out to support these smaller films, I may have to think real hard about setting up screenings of much bigger summer movies that I'm already being offered.
You know the ones I mean. Here's how you win HESHER tickets:
Send me an email at HesherChicago@aintitcoolmail.com (please note the new email address) with the subject line "THIS IS HESHER".
In the body of the email, I need your Name, whether or not you're bringing a Guest (guests' names are not required), and the answer to the following question (read carefully): "Who is your favorite antihero in all of filmdom, and why?"
This is a simple one, guys. Keep your responses BRIEF--limit it to 50 words (no matter how tempted you are to go over the limit).
People with the most interesting and original answers win, and will hear from me over the weekend.
Although this is an exclusive AICN event, it will be slightly overbooked to make sure there is a full house.
So you should still arrive early to make sure you get in and get a good seat.
If there's even the slightest chance you or your guest will have to back out of attending if you do win, don't enter.
If you have a job that might make you late or unable to attend, or an ill/pregnant relative, or a temperamental significant other, or a scratchy throat, do not enter.
Anyone not showing up without informing me 24 hours ahead of time so I can fill their seats runs the risk of being no longer eligible for future screening contests.
Good luck, everyone! And thanks to Newmarket Films for bring this film to Chicago.
