The only access you should have is through the front office while school is in session.
I think more imporantly, there needs to be mental stability tests given to anyone owning a firearm, periodically also, not just at the time of the purchase. And they should be forced to prove they are purchasing, or have purchased a lock/safe to keep the arms locked away unless they are using them.
I don't see anyway you can legislate out violence. Those could have been my kids too; but I don't see a need to use this as an excuse to put in a law limiting my rights when it won't do anything. The guy was unstable, he could have just as easily used a handgun, revolver, sword, knife, or bat. Like Motown pointed out, it just happened in China w/a knife, and I wouldn't be surpised at all if that wasn't the first place or first time. If there is a want, there is a market, and if there is a market there will be a way to get anything banned. Just ask the drug dealers, and illegal gun runners right now. All you do is remove the legal tracking of these guns. All the govt laws that have been put in place to stop drunk driving, illegal drug use, prositution, rape, murder, animal abuse, gambling, and all are still very prevelent in our society, to much so. The change can not be made at the govt level, it has to be made at the societal level. We have to be more involved in eachothers lives, and when others have real issues we have to be willing to step in and help them; or at least protect others from them. Society has to turn it's back on violence in all ways, on tv/movies, in music, in every aspect of real life also. You start to remove violence as acceptable recourse then you will see this lessen(not go away). But legislation will not remove it.
