That's interesting... didn't know the internet was around in the 60's. :rofl2:
Anyway, I've heard from a lot of people that Payton wasn't really that great of a guy. He was rude when you asked him for an autograph, said black people are lazy, and was a bad owner when it came to his restaurant employees. Now I know that as Bears fans, we hold an invisibility shield over our eyes when it comes to WP, but can anyone divulge with some personal experiences? I've heard nothing positive about his personality when it comes to his daily business dealings....
He had a second house for a reason. I did not know WP personally, but I have a friend that used to hang out with him back in the 80's(some of the Bears used to workout at a gym in Shaumberg(sp?)IL). Walter never sat still for very long, he was always moving from conversation to conversation at social events. Rumor has it he had few close friends...Matt Suhey being one of them.
So this tribute thread doesn't get derailed......

Not trying to derail anything... if this is the WP thread, he should be talked about, good or bad. Just because he played football, doesn't make him a saint. I'm asking for real stories from people who might have heard/experienced them. I'm too young to have encountered him, and he died when I was 18. So, I'm asking for some insight into what kind of person he was. I can post his pictures all day, but it doesn't mean anything except that he played football.
