My Dad was at the game when he broke the rushing record against the saints. They gave fans a poster in honor of the accomplishment. My pops gave it to me:
It may be hard to understand but my admiration for Walter is based on how loyal he was to his franchise and his city. I have been a Bears fan since I was a grammar school kid; back then in the late seventies/early eighties Walter carried the bears because he WAS the bears. Sure, Doug Buffone, Gary Fencik, Doug Plank, a very young Hampton and Alan Page were fan favorites as well however it was Walter who received national sports media accolades. During that time I heard people say that Walter should be traded so he could be the champion he deserved to be. Walter's dedication and honor made it easier for the bears franchise to gradually accumulate winners with champion caliber personalities in the front office, coaching staff and the locker room.
