Back then, they said that pound-per-pound , he was the strongest man in the NFL . And, having watched every single game he ever played, there was no doubt in my mind that he was. There were countless plays where I was sure he would be tackled for a loss ( surrounded, and yer thinking " no WAY he gets outta this " then boom, he'd slam through 3 guys and turn a 6yd loss into a 3yd gain carrying 3 guys on his back ..... or he'd reverse field and run 50yards to gain 4; sometimes he'd find a seam and gain 25.) Opponents would finally tackle him, but he was the one who delivered the blow. Foes would get up shaking their heads 'no' ... in amazement of what they were playing against . It was comical seeing these reactions. Also made you feel PROUD that he was on YOUR team. The man was relentless. NO ONE ever tried harder, before or since. That's why Ditka called him " The best football player I've ever seen ". I second that. A once in a lifetime player. Glad fate saw to it, that he landed here. Miss you Wally.... wish u were here.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?
A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

Payton is the greatest player of a franchise which has had its share of all-time greats over its 90 year history. I know that several people in this thread were talking about how they wished that the Bears would return to the Super Bowl like the Bears were in during Payton's hey day. My answer to those fans is to fear not, because this season has produced a team they can be proud to call their own, regardless of what happens the rest of the way. The Bears are in the driver's seat in terms of leading the division, and even though they have a difficult schedule coming up, so too, do the Green Bay Packers. I think we will win at least four more games the rest of the way, with the cold weather coming up sure to play in our favor with our current trend of balancing the offense and our defense playing ferociously in recent games. It is as if Walter Payton is looking on over this team with the likes of George Halas, Bronko Nagurski, Red Grange, Sid Luckman, "Bulldog" Turner, and Stan Jones, ordaining this season to be a great year for the Bears to spring themselves forward on a hunt for another Vince Lombardi Trophy in the future.
