#5 of all time
I'm in awe of what the man was able to accomplish. I wish I lived in Chicago and could be old enough to remember Walter Payton. While I'm 29 years old, I didn't become the big time sports fan that I am until sometime around 1989, and then it was when I was introduced to University of Tennessee football. Payton is the greatest player of a franchise which has had its share of all-time greats over its 90 year history. I know that several people in this thread were talking about how they wished that the Bears would return to the Super Bowl like the Bears were in during Payton's hey day. My answer to those fans is to fear not, because this season has produced a team they can be proud to call their own, regardless of what happens the rest of the way. The Bears are in the driver's seat in terms of leading the division, and even though they have a difficult schedule coming up, so too, do the Green Bay Packers. I think we will win at least four more games the rest of the way, with the cold weather coming up sure to play in our favor with our current trend of balancing the offense and our defense playing ferociously in recent games. It is as if Walter Payton is looking on over this team with the likes of George Halas, Bronko Nagurski, Red Grange, Sid Luckman, "Bulldog" Turner, and Stan Jones, ordaining this season to be a great year for the Bears to spring themselves forward on a hunt for another Vince Lombardi Trophy in the future.
