    Briggs discusses Cutler and Peppers

Briggs says Cutler needs more time to throw - Chicago Breaking Sports

"I'm a big Jay Cutler fan and I think everyone in Chicago (will) end up being a big Jay Cutler fan. But right now, with what we had going into this year, Jay Cutler had a lot of problems. There were a lot of things that were going on. He was struggling as far as trying to have time. He didn't have a lot of time. He was trying to make things happen. I think that Jay Cutler is an elite QB and you give him an opportunity to be that and he is going to do it he was in the Pro Bowl with me the year before and that's really where I'm going to leave it at. I'm just going to leave it at that I think he is an elite QB and he will get back to that."

Briggs also talked about the defensive side of the ball.

If he has a say in the matter, Julius Peppers would be in a Bears uniform in the near future.

"Absolutely I love a guy like Julius Peppers putting pressure on a QB each play," Briggs said. "I'd love that. But you know for us ... obviously it starts up front. Defensively it starts up front. So if we get pressure up front, that makes everything ... I don't want to say easier. But it just makes things make sense for us in the defensive back field and for our linebackers."

Can't say I disagree with him on the Cutler issue but Kampman would be a much less expensive and maybe more effective use of dollars as a DLE/Pass Rusher than a very over priced Peppers.

yeah, you and JA think alike. They should get Peppers just to let the fans know they are serious about winning

I don't want to be one of those who think that just because you hire a supposed front line DE that you're gonna turn this around. What are you suggesting? That we sign a guy like Peppers just to let people know were serious even if it's an overt failure.

Didn't we just do that with Orlando Pace? Shall we try that same idea again?

If Peppers is a headcase and he wants a big payout he may end up like some other unmotivated players. I would agree and say Kampman as a longer term investment.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

I agree...I don't want another highly paid older guy...Muhsin, Archuleta, Fred Miller, Orlando Pace....these haven't worked out. Let's get a guy who may not be as elite, but will work his butt off.

Isn't Kampman coming off a major knee injury? He is a Packer as well... (I know that means nothing to some of you so no need to explain it)

    I'll take Peppers.

They'll probably extend Pace's contract to show they were right about him.

haha i would be so pissed!

I think Peppers is a rare talent, wether he has anything left is a matter of some speculation. I guess it would come down to interivews, work outs, and pretty much just kicking the tires before you swing him a major deal on name recognition only.

Yes, Kampman is coming off major surgery but I'm not advocating we make an offer to him without some degree of certainty that he'd be able to play to his former level. There should be more than enough information about his rehab and his chances to make an honext appraisal of that.

Everythings a risk from a certain perspective. Look we just blew a high choice on a guy with no big time track record who was supposedly healthy as a horse.........he died! (RIP)

Personally, and if he's healthy, I just believe that Kampman is a better fit for the Bears than Peppers. No more, no less.
