Message to Angelo from the Saints SB win...

    6 Super Bowl Weekend Thoughts
Mark Potash makes six observations coming out of Super Bowl Weekend:
    Prev • Next

No. 6: The Saints' offensive line did a great job against the Colts' defense, allowing one sack (by Dwight Freeney) and only one "quarterback hit." It's a modestly built offensive line, too. Right tackle Jon Stinchcomb was a second-round pick in 2003; right guard Jahri Evans a fifth-round pick in 2006; left tackle Jermon Bushrod was a fourth-round pick in 2007; left guard Carl Nicks a fifth-round pick in 2008 and center Jonathan Goodwin an undrafted free agent in 2006. See how easy it is, Jerry Angelo?

    Ouch.

With five offensive linemen on the field compared to 3 linebackers, 4 defensive linemen etc etc etc, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that you need to regularly throw draft picks at the OL to ensure the deepest personnel group on the roster stays where it needs to be.

Not every pick has to stick, but there's a lesson to be learned from this... better late than never, please, Jerry...

If JA can't be good he can at least be redundant by getting some help in FA if possible and doing it all over again in the draft. Why hasn't the organization realized the defencincy of not being able to find quality OL and provide a better scout suited for that purpose?

We are not allowed to comment on how the Saints ascended to the Super Bowl while the Bears are promoting an 0-16 coach to defensive coordinator.

    So says Jimmors and benjamin.

So you are butt hurt because someone disagrees with you Starky? Your original statement was that what other teams do is irrelevant, all as a part of using another teams success as the premise of your arguement. I don't disagree we could have done better, for a number of reasons, but you definitely contradicted yourself. Jimmors and Benji just called you on it.

It's a good thing the Patriots didn't promote a 5-11 coach to a HEAD COACH position... oh wait... nevermind.

Watching the Saints O-line was pretty spectacular. They pulled either the right guard or center to the left to help with coverage on freeny, or threw in a tight end or had the back chip block him also.

They might not have the strongest o-line, but they obviously have someone coaching them to be good.

The Colts D is not what it used to be (at least in the QB pressure department), and an injured Dwight Freeney didnt help matters. In fact, Bears had more sacks this year then the Colts did. Ill give the Saints credit for standing up, but i believe most of the credit goes to Drew Brees. There were plenty of plays were Freeny spun around the Tackle, or bull rushed right in and wouldve had a sack, if not for the fact that Brees had already gotten rid of the ball by then. It seemed the only way the Saints OL could stop Freeney was to double team him.

Despite adding Lovie buddies to both coordinator roles, Jerry/Lovie went a significant way towards redeeming themselves by appointing a proven OL brain in the form of Tice.

Our OL was headed nowhere with Hiestand. The Saints OL just go to show what can be achieved with steady renewal through the draft and capable coaching.

How many former coaches under belichick have left for HC positions? Now how many former coaches under Lovie have gone to HC positions?
