I can't remember off the top of my head. But, I remember a draft where he picked up three defensive players and they all got cut before the season even started. It was then i was convince JA was brain dead.

Chris Petersen from Boise State for new Head Coach. Look at his resume ..... it's about the O. He's 65-5 as a HC. Get an up and comer from a proven successful organization for new GM. Then we'll see some results and Cutler will finally have people with real bona-fides coaching him. My 2cents.

What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?
A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

BSU coaches coach well at BSU but that's no assurance they won't fall flat on their faces elsewhere. Do you have time for a story about his predecessor, Don "Hawk" Hawkins. Look at how well he did after he left his surroundings in Boise and came to Boulder to coach CU.
I do not want a college coach taking over unless he's a guy who has played and won in the pro's like a Jim Harbaugh. Even then it's a stretch to think the guy will make that swing without a hitch. One thing I do agree with you on is that we need an either an offensive minded HC or a very good OC to match up with Lovie.

I understand ur point but at the same time I don't think coaching FB is rocket science. So I do think a college coach can succeed in the pros. Prolly a moot suggestion anyways since he just got a 5yr extension last year. But wouldn't it be nice to watch a Bears team put up 30pts a game for a change ? Defense is of course important but watching defense orientated fb does get boring after a few decades. Winning games 30-23 would be more exciting imo, but some like games that end 17-13. Meh.

Just from past happenings. Most college coaches who join the ranks of pro head coaches out the gate usually fail. I think the only one that had real success was Jimmy Johnson, when he went from Miami to Dallas. College coaches who go into the pros usually benefit starting out as OC or DC first and get use to the change.

It can't be and there are days when I think that it doesn't even require a degree in coaching when most of us can see what's wrong and know what needs to be done to correct it. I swear that half of this membership could call offensive plays for the Bears better than Mike Martz has done of late.
His biggest problem is that he's so hung up in the X's and O's of his system that he fails to recognize that he either lacks the personnel to operate it or it's complexity is beyond these guys. Twice he's tried to get this team to pass it's wat to glory and twice it's failed so he needs to make a change. Personally I don't think he wants to do it and three strikes and your out. Given our options Lovie Smith is not the worst choice we could have made for a HC but matching his approach with Mike Martz is. Especially when we have a GM who wouldn't know good offensive personnel if they slept with him every night.

What is truely sad is this is a thread from a year ago. Further proving JA will not change and there is no choice but to send him packing.

Again, if we're talking coaches, Brian Schottenheimer is at the top of my list. We shouldn't look at the Cowhers of the world, and whoever else has been out for a while. Schottenheimer always works the offense around what is going best for it, and if a trick play is to occur, he uses the right personnel (unlike Martz). For OC, either promote Tice or sign Todd Haley when he's fired (not a great HC, but an OC that would take a common sense approach to things). What's anyone's thoughts on those guys?

The Bears always seem to their best when they have a HC who can challenge them and light a fire under them much like Ditka did. Lovie Smith is respected by his players but I don't see him boosting team spirit and competitiveness the way Ditka did and he learned it from "The Old Man" GSH who was famous for it. Personally I've always thought this coaching staff was the wrong one for the Bears.
I have no problem with a defensive minded HC as long as he's matched up with the right OC. We've never had that during Lovies entire tenure. Turner had a poor offensive concept and was a terrible playcaller, Shea and Martz wanted/want to run an offense without the proper personnel to do it and it's questionable whether it would work in Chicago even with better personnel. This is not San Diego, California.
At this point in time I really can't say who I'd hire since in my opionion Lovis Smith isn't going anywhere until his contract is up. There's a better chance of Angelo being shunted aside and some of his GM authority taken away from him than there is of Lovis being fired. I want Martz out as OC and to avoid Jay Cutler having to learn still another system I have suggested bringing in the guy who helped make him a pro-bowl QB in Denver, Jeremy Bates. Lovie is signed through 2013 so we need to make this move at the end of this season. If we wait one more year before we get rid of Martz we won't be able to find a good OC with Lovie in his lame duck year.
That's my 2 cents on it.
