Yet he was in the backfield, and on the Line to Block...so apparently Martz feels that is part of his job.

Agreed, when only 3-0 at 1/2 time, really still thought despite the ugliness and 9 sacks, we were going to pull it out.usually when a team doesn't capitalize on the mistakes, it comes back to bite them in the 2nd 1/2, but when saw collins, that thought of winning went waaaaay down.

I just feel the luck ran out on the Bears. The o-line had been weak for years. They pulled out some wins but it was obvious they are not as strong as they should be. Hopefully this will be a good week of prep for the bears and they will not lose two straight. I with most when I am tired of seeing the d picking up the slack for the offense. Maybe this set back will finally be the wake up call.
Without weaponz it's just another airline!
I am here to chew bubble gum and kick butt and I am all out of bubble gum!

Don't think it was "luck", we out-hustled the packers, causing most of their penalties, b eit grabbing Wr's because the Packer defender beat or grabbing peppers because he beat the oline to save a sack or false starting becuase peppers in clifton/tausher's head NOT luck- we out game planned and adjusted better than Cowboys and not luck. And we totally outplayed the Lions and self destructed on our selves to keep it close.
With that said- the Oline sucked and Does need a new make-over or new blood

I'm not terribly upset about the loss last night. Maybe it's because I don't mind seeing a team get a reality check. Kind of re-grounds the team and then you move on. We have the makings of a very good team. But we have holes and they were exposed with a 50' magnifying glass last night.
Our offense was pitiful, but that's not news. Anyone who watched the game could see that. Our defense played pretty well until deep into the game. It was a MIRACLE that we were only down 3-0 at halftime.
There's plenty of blame to go around on the offense. EVERYONE involved had a hand in last nights embarrassment. What I know is coming, but don't want to see it, it the knee jerk fan reactions.

good points.. and agree 100% the "D" IS playoff caliber and as said before, only being out there all night, IMo caused the bad play at end.. and don't blame them for that. i really hope you are right about the "wake up" call, can't imagine its going to be a fun week at halas hall.

I think we all expected the O line to be a problem this year. In each of the 3 games prior to last night, the offensive line started the game with protection problems. At some point in the 1st half, adjustments were made and the protection got better. We moved the ball, scored and won. We still couldn't run the ball, but it didn't matter. Our offensive line was showing signs that maybe we under estimated them.
Last night, adjustments were made and they didn't work. Being able to run the ball would have been a huge lift, especially since the defense was able to keep game close. What we saw from our o line last night is what many of us feared going into the season. I don't think we'll see that every week, but the TOTAL confusion on blocking assignments and bad blocking in general have everybody nervous once again. Give the Giants credit. They played like they were on a mission!
At this point, I choose to stay optimistic, because there really isn't anything else to do. I can't effect how the Bears play next week against Carolina. I can't change how they prepare, etc.... But I'm more concerned now than I was going into last nights game.

and losing Both guards to injury, garza and louis didn't help and lead to more confusion as at one time- only kruetz in the same position as he played in camp.

I've never played the o line position, but I've always thought that familiarity with the player you line up next to is a key to good line play. Knowing what said player is going to do when faced with certain schemes, stunts and blitzes is key to keeping the QB safe. Losing both guards didn't help either.
Perfect example of familiarity occurred on the right side of the line. Manu was lined up outside Schaefer. There were two defenders rushing from that deep outside position. You would have thought they could have handled them, but Schaefer's man drove hard up the field following the player Manu was trying to block. Looked like Schaefer didn't know whether to release him to Manu or continue trying to push him up the field. One of those two guys made the sack. Can't remember which, but you could tell neither Manu or Schaefer knew how to handle it. Had they been playing next to each other longer, they might have sorted it out properly.

exactly and had the same thing with edwin williams at guard not knowing who to block when the Lb and DT came at him and allowed the NT straight in for a sack..it Doesn't make anything better, and they STILL need to do their job..
as well as jay realizing the problems and getting it out earlier to "compensate" for this... but the lack of chemistry and not knowing each other def contributed to a few of the "jailbreaks"
