One day after the Bears beat the Packers 20-17 on a field goal with four seconds left to play on Monday night, the rivalry hit the video store shelves in the form of Greatest NFL Rivalries: Bears Defeat Packers (Warner, $27).
The original network broadcasts of three games are contained on three discs. The so-called "Walter Payton Game" was played Nov. 7, 1999, six days after the Hall of Fame running back died from liver disease at age 45. The Bears prevailed 14-13 on a blocked field goal. The Bears opened the 2006 season on Sept. 10 and handed quarterback Brett Favre his first shutout, 26-0.
And in the game subtitled the "Coldest Game in Bears History," Chicago prevailed 20-17 at Soldier Field on Dec. 22, 2008, in a temperature at kickoff of 2 degrees and minus 13 degrees wind chill .

ZachZaidman On the bright side: Johnny Knox is averaging 21.5 yards per catch, highest in NFL (minimum of 10 receptions)
skjensen Source confirms to me that Mark Anderson is headed to the Houston Texans. @Adam_Schefter had it first, I believe. Not sure, though.

Bears' release of Anderson stokes Halas Hall fire

The Bears return to work Wednesday morning at Halas Hall in preparation for Sunday's game at Carolina, and it will be interesting to gauge the reaction in the locker room to the release of Mark Anderson on Tuesday afternoon.
The private reaction by multiple Bears players as the news broke was unified.
"What?"
That's how they replied via text messages. It's not that Anderson had been performing at a high level. But the Bears went from benching a veteran defensive lineman in Week 3 -- Tommie Harris -- to cutting one who was playing regularly after Week 4. That kind of moves catches even veterans who know NFL stands for Not For Long off guard. Maybe that very thought played a factor in the Bears' decision to make the move. Whether they will admit it or not, veterans now will be wondering when the shoe will fall again. Even starters will be on the lookout.
Israel Idonije will continue to be the starter at left end and Charles Grant will figure into the mix. It remains to be seen if the move will affect rookie fourth-round draft pick Corey Wootton. The Northwesten product has been inactive through the first four games. Henry Melton, used primarily at tackle, also could see more work at end as part of the rotation.
In the new era of accountability, which the Bears deny exists, much more is possible than previously imagined.
* We'll get a better idea where right guard Lance Louis is Wednesday. Because the Bears have not made a move involving the offensive line, he's probably not seriously injured. Coach Lovie Smith described the injury as a left knee bruise Monday. Louis was hurt on Barry Cofield's sack of Jay Cutler as his knee buckled when the Giants' pass rusher made an inside move past him.
* Maybe more important is the status of left tackle Chris Williams. Will he return to practice Wednesday after missing the last two games with a pulled right hamstring. It was diagnosed to be a 3-4 week injury. Can he return in the third week? Practicing Wednesday would give him the best chance, but certainly wouldn't make it a done deal.
* The Panthers' passing game has little hope right now with Notre Dame rookie Jimmy Clausen trying to figure out what he's doing and Pro Bowl performer Steve Smith almost certain to miss the game with a high ankle sprain. So the Bears will be able to load up against the running game that is supported by DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. This will be an interesting challenge after the Bears yielded 189 yards rushing to the New York Giants.
*Mike Martz talks Wednesday. It will be interesting to get his take on the meltdown at New Meadowlands Stadium. Ditto Cutler. Check back later for developments.

Haven't heard anything regarding Garza and Louis' knee injuries. I hope both can play Sunday.

Hell lets just throw in every player that was cut and eventually made a roster with a team again. Damn your good making a mountain out of a molehill. Try making better analogies instead of comparing apples and oranges.

The CBMB has reached an epic low...

It's threads like that that cause intelligent posters to post elsewhere. The inmates have taken over the asylum.

Ogunleye on shuffle: 'I don't understand any of it'
October 6, 2010 8:30 AM | No Comments
By Vaughn McClure
Former Bears defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, now with the Houston Texans, was surprised as anyone to hear about the Bears severing ties with Mark Anderson.
"I don't understand any of it," Ogunleye told the Tribune. "I do know Mark will find a place that can and will use his talents to help the team win. From a players perspective change is not always a bad thing."
Ogunleye probably never expected to be teammates with Anderson again, but John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported on Twitter that Anderson has agreed to join the Texans. Anderson is expected to be on the practice field Thursday, McClain said.
Now it will be interesting to see how Anderson, 27, factors into Ogunleye's future. Ogunleye, 33, signed a one-year, $800,000 deal after end Conner Barwin (ankle) was placed on injured reserve. He is third on the depth chart and played 20 snaps (recording one tackle) in the Texans' victory at Oakland last Sunday.
The Bears let Ogunleye go via free agency, in part because of the faith they had in Anderson. Ogunleye led the Bears with 6 1/2 sacks last season from the left end position, the same spot Anderson attempted but failed to win a starting job playing this season. Anderson went without a sack through four games.
Ogunleye wanted to return to the Bears, but his initial asking price figured to be too high. But since he sat on the open market for a while and eventually signed for under $1 million, maybe the Bears should have re-signed him.
"They did what they felt they needed to do," Ogunleye said. "I wish all parties well. I'm focused on trying to help the Houston Texans win a Super Bowl. That's all I care about."

No offense was intended.
I wouldn't call that board a "competitor." Believe me, you wouldn't want those inmates invading this message board.
