    WindyCity Mock Draft Week 5

    Free Agents

OG Logan Mankins [Patriots] 5 years 42 million/ 21 guaranteed

Mankins is done in New England and the Bears should make him the 1st
    priority.

    S Dawan Landry [Baltimore] 4 years 16 million/10 guaranteed
A solid SS that brings coverage ability and size.

    1[22] DE Ryan Kerrigan [Purdue] 6’3” 272lbs.

The OL is a major area of concern, but this is a very weak year for the 1st round OL talents. The Bears DL is a one man show to this point in the season and the Bears need to add someone that can apply pressure opposite of Julius Peppers. Kerrigan is a high effort physical smash mouth player that the Bears could use. He may never be a 12 sack a season guy, but he is always going to work hard and bring his best.

    2[54] C Kristofer O’Dowd [USC] 6’5” 300lbs.

The Bears need a center of the future, or the present, and O’Dowd is an elite talent that has been held back by injuries. O’Dowd brings a great physical presence to solid technique. He should be able to start right away and could even play OG.

    3[86] OT James Brewer [Indiana] 6’8” 335lbs.

The Bears need OTs that can hold up in passing situations and keep Jay Cutler upright. Brewer is a monstrous man at 6’8” and has very nimble feet. He is not the mauler that his size would make you believe, but he could play LT or RT for the Bears.

    4. CB Charles Brown [UNC] 5’10” 195lbs.

The Bears CB position is solid only for the week that no one is injured or benched. Depth and youth need to be added and Charles Brown is a slid cover man.

    5. DT Derrick Hill [Cal] 6’2” 308lbs.

The Bears only have one real NT on the team in Anthony Adams. The Bears need to add depth and a developmental starter in that position. Hill is a squatty and solid player that anchors the NT in the Cal defense.

    6. OG Zach Hurd [UConn] 6’7” 325lbs.

The Bears continue to get bigger and younger on the OL. Hurd is limited athletically, but he has the size and strength to be a close quarters mauler and a possible RG.

    7. Supplemental Draft RB Harvey Unga.

DE is about the last spot on this team I would invest a first round pick on. I still believe the Manderson cut was more about him not doing enough to keep Wootton inactive, rather than just to do a straight swap for Grant. Honestly, just on the D side of the ball I'd pick a CB, UT, FS and LB in the first before DE.

Still a big O'Dowd fan, though.

What is your opinion of James Brewer?

He moves so well for a 6'8" 335lbs. man and I have started to see him get 1st round consideration.

As far as mid round OL spects go, he has the chance to move up depending on his postseason. I disagree about his quick feet though, and the sand in his cankles is something he's going to have to show he improve. He's a bulldozer against the small college DE's in the run game, but I don't know how well he can handle speed AND size of the NFL.

I keep thinking CB or DE only because the safety and UT classes are so bad.

When Marvin Austin is headlining a group that is not good for business.

If you were picking OL in the first who would you take?

The only guy considered a 1st round talent right now that I can get excited about is Derek Sherrod as he looks like a guy that can play LT. RT or LG.

Realistically outside of the top 10 out of the Seniors, Nate Solder. Including underclassmen outside of the top 10, Nate Potter.

It seems like everyone is down on Nate Solder?

With the exception of ESPN he is barely considered a 1st round talent right now.

Part of me hopes that we just go with Rodney Hudson stick him at center and move on from there.

I think dline and secondary will be the highlight of our picks. The offense will be ignored like usual. Maybe a C in the third round if we are lucky but things dont change at Halas Hall. They have been using this strategy from day one.
