Well I guess that means all the "haters" are helping this team by constantly doubting them...everyone give 4th and all the others a big round of applause and stop beating them down for their concerns. 8p

Would not mind them splitting the goaline at all.

Mike Mulligan of the Chicago Sun-Times suggests that the Bears should use Chester Taylor as their goal-line back instead of Matt Forte.

Forte has struggled miserably in short yardage over the last two seasons, including getting stuffed three times from the 1-yard line in Week 1. If he continues to fail in these spots, the coaches will have no choice but to turn to Taylor. Still, Taylor isn't a true goal-line back either. It's a fluid situation for now.

See all posters serve a purpose : )

though will say the "doubters" players talk about are more media and other players- not fans, who IMO they don'y bother one way or the other

Scout's View- J'marcus Webb critique from panthers game

    Week 5 rookie report card

Looking at the performances of some 2010 draft picks from the fifth week of the season. Greg Gabriel

    Chicago at Carolina
    J’Marcus Webb

Webb, the Bears 7th round draft choice, made his first NFL start against the Panthers. He has received playing time in each of the last three games so this wasn’t his first regular season action.

Webb is an interesting story. He was a four-star recruit out of high school and originally played at the University of Texas. He played a lot as a true freshman but because of some off field problems he left Texas after his freshman year. He then enrolled at a junior college before ending up at West Texas A&M. He is a very talented but also very raw player. Playing at the Division II level you don’t get the technique coaching he would have gotten at Texas. What he has is great natural traits. He is over 6-7, weighs around 330 pounds and has extremely long arms. When you are scouting offensive linemen, tackles in particular, you always want to find guys with long arms. It gives them a leverage advantage.

In this game, he played well. Still, there is much room to improve. He gets off the ball quickly and has good explosion on contact. He does a good job sustaining his blocks by running his feet and looking to finish.

Because he is so tall he will get overextended at times. This shows up in pass protection at times also. He got beat once to the outside because he overextended and didn’t slide well. Because of this the defender pressured the QB, causing a poor pass. His overall pass protection was good.

He keeps his hands up and shows a very strong punch. He can bend his knees and anchor. It’s when he gets lazy with his technique that he overextends. For a big guy he has good athleticism. He is able to get to the second level and adjust on the move. Webb will get better with playing time.

For the game he deserves a B.

agree with gabriel, pleasantly Suprised with how Well j'marcus held up sunday- each week like all rookies have, will Struggle with some plays, and esp With going from div-2 to NFL, the Speed will always be a problem his rookie year as adjusts. BUT, you can't teach that Size, and IMO , he may be the next "big cat", a Converted DT, who hd the "freakish size" like Webb, and over time became a very good RT for a long time.

And sounds like Gabriel may have been part of the bears Scouting of Webb before let go : )

The NFC? Was a conference based on offense back in my career—and hasn’t changed much. The west coast system. Wide open schemes. Yes, there is good defensive football in the NFC, even more so this season. Chicago, Minnesota, Washington, New Orleans and the New York Giants. Defenses that can tackle, rush the passer and do play a physcial style. But, that isn’t enough for me when we stack them up against the AFC’s top dogs.

From a nationally televised embarrassment at the new Meadowlands Stadium, where Jay Cutler had to be peeled off the field turf, the Bears have, in just one week, ascended to the driver's seat in the NFC North.

At 4-1 they're a game ahead of the Green Bay Packers, who have been decimated by injuries, and the Bears also are 2½ games ahead of the Minnesota Vikings, who have dug themselves a 1-3 hole and are not finished dealing with the off-the-field distraction of Brett Favre's “Textgate."

Quicker than you can say, “playoff contender, the Bears have control in the NFC North, and their position should only be strengthened over the next four weeks.
The Bears have home games against the mediocre Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins, a bye week, and then a road game against the winless Buffalo Bills, which isn't really a home game for them because it will be played in Toronto.

So, unless they trip over their own feet, the Bears are looking at a 7-1 record at the halfway point; 6-2 at worst.

They will be favored to win each of the next three games, probably by more than a touchdown in two of them. That is, as long as Cutler plays, which is expected once he is cleared for a full return to activity after practicing Wednesday.

First up are the Seahawks, who have been solid at home this season under new coach Pete Carroll but awful on the road, losing by 17 at Denver and at St. Louis, both of which are 2-3.

A 3-2 Washington team should offer a tougher challenge, since it already posted victories over the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Packers. But Washington also lost to the Rams by 14 points and has scored more than 17 points just once.
The Bills have allowed more points than any team in the NFL by a comfortable margin, an average of 32 per game.

Even if the Bears go 2-1, they'll be 6-2 and should still be in control of their own destiny and the NFC North.

The 3-2 Packers face a brutal four weeks with quarterback Aaron Rodgers questionable this week with a concussion. And that's the least of the Packers' injuries.
Packers tight end Jermichael Finley is expected to have knee surgery Wednesday and miss at least a few weeks. Running back Ryan Grant is already on injured reserve, NFL sack leader Clay Matthews has re-injured a hamstring, linebacker Nick Barnett could go on injured reserve with a wrist injury, right tackle Mark Tauscher has a shoulder injury, and safety Morgan Burnett has a knee injury.

On top of all that, the Packers face, in order: the Dolphins, Vikings, Jets and Cowboys. The lone bright spot is that only the Jets game is on the road, but the Packers have lost two of their last three with their only victory coming against the Lions by 2 points.
The Vikings are in worse shape. Their four week stretch begins when they host the Cowboys, making that a matchup of two 1-3 teams that were popular preseason Super Bowl picks but are now desperate for a victory. The loser faces long odds of even making it to the playoffs.

After that, it gets more difficult for the Vikings. It's back-to-back road games at Green Bay and New England before a home game against the Arizona Cardinals, who are off to a surprising 3-2 start. Split those games and the Vikings are 3-5 and can only afford one more loss the rest of the season to make the playoffs.

As for the second half of the Bears' schedule, it gets more difficult, especially if the Vikings get back on track, so they might need at least a 6-2 record at the midway point to make it to the playoffs.

The Bears and Vikings face each other twice, and the Bears also play at Green Bay, Detroit and Miami. They also have tough matchups vs. the Eagles, Patriots and Jets, but all three of those games are at home.
    NFC North Outlook

Here’s a closer look at the schedule for the next four weeks facing the three contenders for the NFC North Division:

    WEEK 6

    BEARS (4-1) vs. Seahawks (2-2)
    PACKERS (3-2) vs. Dolphins (2-2)
    VIKINGS (1-3) vs. Cowboys (1-3)

    WEEK 7

    BEARS vs. Redskins (3-2)
    PACKERS vs.VIKINGS

    WEEK 8

    BEARS bye week
    PACKERS at Jets (4-1)
    VIKINGS at Patriots (3-1)

    WEEK 9

    BEARS at Bills* (0-5)
    PACKERS vs. Cowboys (1-3)
    VIKINGS vs. Cardinals (3-2)

*game will be played in Toronto

I am having fun this season, but it is way too early to think about things this way. Not until the second half do I start looking at this stuff. It just seems too early. It does look good and certainly sets up nicely for us, no doubt. HOWEVER!!!! This is the NFL, and there is nothing gimme about it.

I want Dallas to beat them though because I think they still have alot of pieces in place on offense, but Favre is back to the old Favre, everything isn't falling his way like it did last year. If Dallas beats them this week, then you can officially stick a fork in them.
