After watching the Chicago Bears yield six more quarterback sacks to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Hall of Famer Mike Ditka said it's time for Lovie Smith to step in.

It was the first game back for Jay Cutler after he missed the previous week with concussion symptoms. Cutler suffered the concussion while being sacked an NFL-record nine times in the first half against the New York Giants on Oct. 3.

"It's not one thing, it's a multiple of things," Ditka said on "Mike & Mike In The Morning" on ESPN Radio. "From a coach's aspect, I would say yeah, Lovie has to step in. I don't think there's any question about it. You can't let go on what's going on.

"You see these pictures, these kids don't know where to go or who to block. There's people unaccounted for. Every team in the league is going to look at these films. The problem isn't going to get easier, it's going to get harder. It's going to be compounded from this point forward."

The Bears rushed just 14 times for 61 yards in their 23-20 loss to Seattle. Some believe part of the problem is the emphasis on the pass in the system of offensive coordinator Mike Martz.
"So how do you correct it?" Ditka asked. "You better start from scratch, and say: 'We're going to make sure we're going to account for these people, or we're going to run the football.'

"You say it's not glamorous, it's not exciting, it's not what Martz does, I don't care. You cannot put that much pressure on your defense and your special teams. You must be able to be effective on offense, and they weren't effective at home. And they had a chance to win that football game

Ditka, who is an ESPN analyst and former Bears player and coach, was pointed in his criticism of the Bears' pass protection.

"You can't throw the football if you can't pass protect," he said. "They don't understand pass protection. They don't understand where the people are coming from. They can't account for those people. Not only the linemen can't account for them, the back got confused yesterday, but the quarterback is not accounting for them. Now you have a major problem."

"So therefore, if those guys aren't accounting for them, maybe the coaches aren't accounting for them. It's a bad situation, because it takes one dimension you have away from you. You cannot throw the ball effectively, you just cannot. There's no reason for this stuff that's happening to happen."
ditka isnt the only one saying this. Why is it everyone else sees this but the people in charge? I just dont get how we can adjust mid game against the Cowboys but now it looks like everyone and everything is lost in space. Like how the hell can Forte regress pass blocking. How can mamu be so missing in action? Why is Clark inactive when these guys cant handle the blocking? Allot of things going on right now just dont make sense. We used the damn screens so effectively before why did that play disapear?

"When you have guys like D.A. sitting on the sideline, that hurt us," Hester said. "He's a great athlete and I love to see him out there. When he's on the field he makes plays. So I don't mind the way."

One veteran scout was baffled how the Bears handled Aromashodu after the season opener against the Lions, insisting Johnny Knox and Aromashodu were the team's two best receivers. Aromashodu caught two passes on Sunday, one of them going for 34 yards.

    yes sir!!!!!!!!

can't imagine they don't see it, and don't SCREAM ALOT in the film room...And Manu actually played well last week, so understand why him and not clark this week, but wouldn't be suprised wit manu regressing again, clark doesn't get the nod against redskins. And forte another enigma,, one week a good blocking, next week stinks, have no answer for that- and doubt the coaches do either

We are almost at the mid point of the season and after that abysmal performance I don't see them even approaching mediocrity this season, it's 1 step forward and 2 back. Our "ALL STAR" coaching ranks are approaching utter failure. I really think we saw the real Bears team perform this week.

The worst part about losing to the Seahawks at home is that this team could be a pretty solid team if they could just manage to actually block someone. The bad OL completely destroys this team, not only the passing game, but running game and field position, and then eventually kills the defense because they have to be on the field so much.

The air has been let out of my sails. Yesterday's loss was embarrassing. There's no way we should lose at home to the Seahawks. I thought we were the far better team. The reality is the Bears aren't as good as some of us thought they were. The o-line is holding the team back and the D is good, but not good enough as seen yesterday. Right now the only games I feel confident about us winning are Buffalo and Detroit, both road games. I fully expect to lose to Washington next week and be 4-3 going into the bye. I'll stick with my original prediction of 9-7.

I'm afraid the loss to Seattle as made me rather cynical about this Bears team and the 2010 season. The weaknesses on the team that concerned me before the season (o-line, d-line except Peppers and secondary) were exposed. Add to that Martz who makes the team one dimensional with his disportionate run/pass playcalling.

I wouldn't count on the Bears fixing the problem of unblocked blockers coming through (blitzes). Teams watch tape and Seattle saw what the Giants did and so will other teams. If the Bears didn't make any adjustments for the Seattle game I doubt they do for any other team either. Even if they try I doubt the players execute.

The Bears deserve any and all negativity from the media and their fan base.

    I'm not a Negative Nancy, I'm a realist.
THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!!!! (INSERT AND SMACK PODIUM HERE) AND WE LET'EM OFF THE HOOK!!!!! Sorry, couldn't resist.
