Mike Tice perspective...
I've seen a few posts where it was said that Tice needs to do something with the O-Line. I was even asked during the off-season when the Bears hired Tice if he was a solid coach. In my answer to that question I made sure to include the fact that ultimately Tice needs talent to work with and I was unsure if the Bears had the requisite talent to protect Cutler in Martz's pass happy offense.
Now, I want to offer a bit of perspective on Tice and his work.
Here are the lineman that Tice had to work with during his stint as the Vikings O-Line coach from 1997 - 2001;
1997
LT Todd Steussie*
LG Randall McDaniel*
C Jeff Christy
RG David Dixon
RT Korey Stringer
1998
LT Todd Steussie*
LG Randal McDaniel*+
C Jeff Christy*
RG David Dixon
RT Korey Stringer
1999
LT Todd Steussie
LG Randall McDaniel*
C Jeff Christy*
RG David Dixon
RT Korey Stringer
2000
LT Todd Steussie
LG Corbin Lacina
C Matt Birk*
RG David Dixon
RT Korey Stringer*
2001
LT Brad Badger
LG Corbin Lacina
C Matt Birk*
RG David Dixon
RT Chris Liwienski
First off, the asterisks note a Pro Bowl selection and the plus/cross denotes a 1st Team All Pro selection.
For clarity's sake, here are where each of those guys were drafted;
Todd Steussie - 1st round, 19th overall in 1994.
Randall McDaniel - 1st round, 19th overall in 1988.
Jeff Christy - 4th round, 91st overall in 1992.
David Dixon - 9th round, 232nd overall in 1992.
Korey Stringer - 1st round, 24th overall in 1995.
Corbin Lacina - 6th round, 167th overall in 1993.
Matt Birk - 6th round, 173rd overall in 1998.
Chris Liwienski - 7th round, 207th overall in 1998.
Brad Badger - 5th round, 162nd overall in 1997.
I included these numbers because it is important to realize that while Tice DID have some 1st round talent while he coached the O-Line in Minnesota it wasn't all 1st round talent. As you can see there are some 4th & 5th rounders in there and even a 9th rounder also. Heck, the 9th rounder is the ONLY lineman that Tice had for every year he coached the O-line.
Sidenote: I recall watching that 1995 Draft where Stringer was selected and feeling like crap because I wanted a skill position player to be taken with that first round pick.
It wasn't until a few years later that I realized that the best football teams are built from the inside out. Meaning, the 10 guys on your offensive and defensive lines are where most football games are won and lost. Once that realization was made, selecting Stringer made perfect sense.

good post joker. But I dont care where the oline picks come from if the gm has a history of picking crap from all over the draft. Even if they focused on the oline in the draft with our gm being offensively challenged it prob wont mean a crock of shit. Just look at the Chris Williams pick even though they knew he had a back problem

Oh i think we can all agree that Tice has crap to work with when it comes to this OL. And no matter what he does or how much shuffling he does, at the end of he day, its still crap.

I can't believe ALL these guys are so inept as to not be able to grasp offensive line play. Do we need to take them back to basics? Technique? Lack o' wanna?
This OL needs intense therapy, and hopefully they'll get it before Jay needs a wheelchair.

Angelo's numbers are middle of the pack... he's not the best and he AIN'T the worst....
in fact I'd like to see where Angelo Ranks among Drafted pro bowlers in the years since he's been with the Bears and how he stacks up against other GM's in that time frame....
Edit: and as for chris williams... uh... Last time I checked, even college guys get injured, some seriously, some not so.
Have you seen Chris williams displaying ANY ill effects from that back problem??? didnt' think so.

I would like to email this post to Jerry Angleo.

We have to get through Washington in hopes they play well and Jay makes it to the bye week with his head still on. Then esentially we have two weeks to work on the O-Line. But after typing that, we had all offseason to work on it, and it isn't working. What The French Toast? F*$%!
