FWIW, I thought that was shitty of the Bears and some Bear fans to call Sayers out on his comments. That man AND his opinion should be revered in that city. He's arguably the greatest RB of all time for crying out loud!
Sayers' problem is that he holds a grudge because of Walter Payton, so many bears fans lost respect for him because of it. I know i did, but i undertand it. Sayers was one of the greatest to come along, but had his career cut short, but still enjoyed the respect of Bears fans, then along comes Sweetness to steal all that thunder he depended on to be relevant.
Sayers sorta brought it down on his own head, but I don't remember exactly what he was saying. I think he was criticizing the team in some manner, then Urlacher took exception to it and fired back at Sayers.
I know Butkus and Ditka and a few others harp on the Bears pretty good now, but I think the outcry was so strong was because the media(and others) were already trashing the Bears and Urlacher( for one) didn't feel they needed to take it from former Bears players, much less an All-Time great.
That's how I'm seeing it, anyhow. I wasn't aware of any grudge.
