Safety Major Wright, out since the first quarter of the Dallas game with a hamstring strain, practiced on a limited basis for the first time since then. With both starting safeties out with injuries, Wright gets some much-needed extra practice time with the No. 1 defense.
“Very encouraging,” coach Lovie Smith said. “It’s been it seems like forever since we’ve had a chance to work with Major, but he was able to do limited work today. Hamstring is coming along. He should be fresh. I know everything should be healed up except for the hamstring."
Before his injury Wright was in discussions for a starting job and had rotated into veteran Chris Harris’ spot on occasion, including down the crucial final stretch against the Detroit Lions.
He will still need some time before playing himself back into that starter discussion but injuries elsewhere and his own play can accelerate any timetable.
“We should get a fresh, bright-eyed guy when he gets back. We have a couple injuries in the secondary right now, but we’ll be a better football team when Major comes back.”
