Briggs eyes practice return, expects to face Skins

    Vaughn McClure

Bears linebacker Lance Briggs said he "anticipates" returning to practice Thursday off a sprained ankle. Briggs expects to play against the Redskins this weekend.

"That's what I'm working toward," Briggs said during his weekly news conference. "Wish I could have played last week. New week, new opportunity. I feel very good about playing this week."

Briggs missed last week's game versus Seattle. His replacement, Brian Iwuh, led the team with 12 tackles.

"Brian did a good job," Briggs said of Iwuh. "He did a great job."
Briggs offered his take on the league's crackdown on flagrant hits.

"Plays aren't made in the NFL from being nice," he said. "Plays are made from being violent."

Briggs said he might reconsider his approach toward hitting once he receives his first fine, but not until then.

Urlacher expected to return to practice Thursday

    By Vaughn McClure

Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher said he should be "good to go" for Thursday's practice after sitting out Wednesday.
Urlacher pulled his groin muscle in the third quarter of the Carolina game and gutted through the pain last week vs. Seattle. He was upset with himself for not making more plays against the Seahawks although Urlacher refused to use to injury as an excuse.

Fellow linebacker Lance Briggs sat out Wednesday's practice as well while still nursing a sprained left ankle. The injury kept Briggs out of the Seattle game, but Briggs told teammates he expects to play against the Redskins Sunday.

If Briggs can't go, Brian Iwuh would start again at weak-side linebacker. Iwuh lead the team with 12 tackles vs. Seattle in his first start as a Bear.

"Iwuh played his butt off," Urlacher said. "I thought he played very well for his first time. He was in the right place. He made plays."
