I don't want to give up on Jay either. Although I agree with the original post. I don't mind having a QB with the gun slingers mentality, but when he makes mental mistakes, ie: the throw in the red zone that turned into the pick 6, I start to question my thinking.
The two positives I got from this game, yes, I do think there were some positives, are:
1) The Bears OL did play better from the 2nd quarter on. They weren't great mind you, but they opened some running lanes and provided Jay with good pass protection at times.
2) The Bears defense really played well, especially in the late 1st Q and early 2nd Q when the Redskins were getting the ball around mid-field.
What frustrated me were the mental mistakes committed by the offense. Dropped passes, quiting on routes, not fighting for balls at times, Forte's fumble and of course, the picks by Jay. I credit him with 2 and the other 2 fall on the WR's, but the 2 he threw were bad. Forced the ball while up 14-10. Could have settled for the FG to make it a 7 point game, but instead, it's a 10 point swing and we end up trailing.
I'm personally glad we have a bye this week. For many reasons. Buffalo is no push over though. They better be prepared coming out of the bye week or we'll lose.

With 2:00 left in the 3rd, we all felt it didn’t we? Even if we settle for a FG, to tie the game, we had this game…we were moving the ball; the Def was playing well…we were going to pull this thing out…we just needed to play it smart, play it safe…enter Jay Cutler and the rest is history… It has become clear to me that Jay has zero situational awareness…he pissed this game away plain and simple, and no one will convince me otherwise…
Reductio ad absurdum...it's how we roll...

It would be nice to see the line protect Jay in the first quarter. Each game seems like he get hit and sacked like crazy until the line figures out how to protect him. Albert Haynesworth blew someone up for a sack.

That was C. Williams he bull rushed. He pushed him right back into Jay.
Agree. I would be nice to see our OL play well from the outset of the game. At this point though, I'm just happy they can do something. Kind of like when you get into a car accident and are happy that you only have to fix a front head light rather than the whole front end!

The game was won. Cutler took the dive across the goal line. The ball broke the plane. Lovie and Co. did not challenge the ruling, and the game was all down hill from there. Who knows how that game plays out if the officials make the right call? But I don't see how it would not have been a win. Cutler threw 4 picks. The OL was aweful early again. The WRs did not come back to the ball. But I put this loss on Lovie Smith. The worst head coach in football.
Debate is one thing. Losing love for your country is another.

Nick High-fived for this post.

Wish we would've went after B. Marshall a little harder, it's obvious we need leadership at the WR position. These guys are young and fast and it looks as though Cutler is doing what he's supposed to do and throwing to a spot but not getting the help he needs from his WR.
Of course some throws (off the back foot) are terrible and on the QB and that's part of the game but I can't see putting all 4 of those INTs on Cutler. Just looks like their timing is still off and the O-line is doing nothing to help them get out in their routes.

Lately we struggle so early in the game and I think it limits the play calling. The second half was different yet Jay was still being pressured alot. If we had a decient running game and gave Jay just a little extra time I believe he would carve up defenses.

One of the ints Knox stopped and didn't follow through on his pattern. It would also be nice to see a wr fight for a bad pass.

You can't give up on Cutler, what the hell does he have to work with?
His receivers have enormous potential, but they give up on routes. They need to mature into their positions, Hester is a number 3 wide receiver, he has the speed, he just needs more discipline, same goes for Knox except that Knox needs to eventually mature into his number 1 position. Bennett will probably be a solid number 2.
Broken record here: offensive line sucks sucks sucks! Tice is playing musical chairs with them (what else can he do?) You got to give him credit for trying, this is how he has to send his troops into battle: Okay here's your weapons; you can have a banana with a hat, a goose and giraffe in a bath tub. Well, if I put the goose on the left and substitute him out later for the banana with a hat, that might work. WTF!
I don't care what kind of quarterback you put in there, when he's getting hit on every other play and getting sacked over and over again, it's going to get into your head. Bottom line, if he had the protection that he was supposed to get, he would be much more accurate and would be making huge plays. Most of the time (not all) it's not his fault.
If you put an average to poor qb in behind a great offensive line, he'll have the opportunity to make some pretty damn good plays. Remember Fuller? He got the job done behind a kick ass offensive line. And he really wasn't all that great a qb. Give Cutler a little slack, I just don't think we'll be able to put together a good offensive line before he becomes ruined or old... or both. Unfortunately it takes years to develop a good o-line and we don't really have that luxury. It's time to retire Angelo and give someone else a shot.
