Bears 2011 Mock Offseason [Lots of Detail]
Front Office
GM: Eric DeCosta [Baltimore]
The Bears need someone who can evaluate talent specifically in the trenches. DeCosta was involved in the drafting of Ben Grubbs, Michael Oher, Marshall Yanda and Jared Gaither all very talented young OLmen.
HC: John Gruden [ESPN]
I think the Bears need to go offense with their next head coach and they need to get someone in place that is more demanding than Lovie Smith.
Free Agents
OG Davin Joseph [Tampa Bay] 6 years 42 million/20 guaranteed
The big money free agent of the offseason is a dominant RG and still only 27 years old. With the Bucs needing to sign LT Donald Penn to a contract extension he may be left out.

OT Mario Henderson [Oakland] 4 years 16 million/ 6 guaranteed
Henderson looks like he is being replaced by the young draft picks in Oakland but he is solid spot starter at RT or LT and is much better then Kevin Shaffer.

Draft
1[12] WR Jonathan Baldwin [PITT] 6’5” 230lbs.
It is becoming very apparent that Jay Cutler is at his best when he has a large WR to throw to like Brandon Marshall. The Bears have a collection of midgets who at times simply get out fought for the ball and do not make plays. It would be nice from the goal line to be able to throw a fade to a physically dominant WR. With how weak the OL class is compared to the WR class this year, the 6’5” Baldwin would be an excellent selection. Baldwin has solid speed, but makes his money by catching and running in traffic.

2[44] C Stefen Wisniewski [Penn State] 6’3” 307lbs.
Olin Kreutz’s contract is finally over and we can move on from his pathetic play over the last few years. The Bears need a solid physical player at center that can man up the bigger DTs in the division as well as make all of the line calls. Wisniewski is a tough physical leader that has great technique and is never out worked on the field.

3[76] OT Chris Hairston [Clemson] 6’7” 325lbs.
The Bears need competition at all spots on the OL and Hairston is a player capable of competing at every spot except center. He brings the size and athletic ability to be an asset anywhere on the line.

4. DT Phil Taylor [Baylor] 6’4” 355lbs.
I suspect our new coach will want to incorporate elements of the 3-4 defense into our team and to do that we need someone on the nose. With the cover 2 defense leaving town hopefully we can get some more beef in the middle of the line. Taylor has some off field issues but he his physical package is worth the risk in the 4th round.

5. DE/LB Cliff Matthews [South Carolina] 6’3” 256lbs.
The Bears need to get more speed at DE or rush LB depending on what front they are using at the time. Matthews can contribute at either position and brings a play making streak with him to the defense.

6. CB Devone Torrence [Ohio State] 6’1” 197lbs.
The Bears need to get more physical at CB and Torrence has the size and the Big Ten pedigree to be a bump and run CB.
