Jason La Canfora: Bears/Cowher
Just heard Jason La Canfora talking on NFL Network about coaches on the hot seat. Of course, Lovie Smith came up. He said he is on the hot seat and that Bill Cowher's inner circle of people are saying Cowher would be very, very interested in the Chicago Bears job. Top of his list. He loves the city, he loves the weather, and he loves Jay Cutler.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/10/26/la-c...hing-hot-seat/ I just creamed myself....I had heard he only was interested in Carolina b/c that is where his family currently is. If this is true, we should be on the phones; and Lovie should be fired before the end of the week.

You know, I was thinking that Bill Cowher would be an excellent choice to coach the Bears simply because he plays old fashioned Bears football, which means his style is predicated on the run. He will inevitably change the defense to a 3-4 scheme, which seems to be the defense of choice nowadays, and there will be no more throwing the football 75% of the time or more. Add to that that he has two Super Bowl appearances and one World Championship, and I think the Bears would be in business, provided that the front office cooperates with him.
Of course, should Gary Kubiak be fired from the Texans, he operates the zone run. If he would be willing to keep Rod Marinelli for the defense and Dave Toub for special teams, that would be great.

I agree the talk of Cowher to the Panthers centered around his wife being sick and needing his help, but she has passed on and I do not think that the Carolina job is attractive at all.
I wonder if the season does go bad, and as bad as we think, if the Bears will make the move to Cowher it would put them back in primetime around the league and would give them a ton of press, and exposure is money.

Had not heard his wife died; how old are his childeren? I think their in H.S. or College in that area. Still The Carolina job would suck..it's a complete rebuild; and the Bears at least have some decent starting points in Cutler, Peppers, Ulr, Briggs, Forte/Taylor, Even Gould and Hester/Manning/Knox in the return game. Hell Give him the GM/Coach job and I'd be even more happy(get rid of all the crap at once).
Of course this is a pipe dream, but it's something to hold my hat on.

Cowher would be great. About the 3-4 I don't think we should chase some trend as we would be behind it by many years and it would be passe' by the time we got it going. How about carving our own path and something innovative or different based on the good defensive players we have. I think the best scenario would be Cowher, new GM, retain Tice, Rod and Toub.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

+1
And in that order.
The only thing that depresses me about all of this, is the fact that it would be too awesome and make too much sense.
Something the McCaskey's aren't known for.
Add in the $10M someone like Cowher could command and then figure out what to do with Peppers in a 3-4 D (after paying him all that money)...
Although I think JPep would make an outstanding ROLB.

I thought they said the same thing about him and the Giants not too long ago.
