NFL Network analyst calls Bears' Williams 'soft'

Chris Williams has struggled at three positions on the Bears' offensive line since the team selected him with the 14th pick in the 2008 draft and according to one former NFL personnel executive it's fair to label him a bust.
NFL Network analyst Michael Lombardi, a former NFL personnel executive with five teams, told "The Mully & Hanley Show" on WSCR-AM 670 Friday morning that Williams' play inside is the weakest link on the Bears' offensive line and has directly led to quarterback Jay Cutler's turnovers.
"Chris Williams is not built to play guard," Lombardi said. "He's too soft. He can't handle power inside and when you have a guy who can push you back it makes every defensive lineman a good pass rusher becasue the one thing bad pass rushers can do is still bull rush.
"And so when you have a guy who's soft inside you've got to be really tentative and that makes the quarterback uncomfortable. His eye level is down -- and obviously Jay's got problems in terms of throwing interceptions and making mistakes of his own -- but a lot of those problems come from getting poundings."
Williams has played both tackle positions before being moved to guard this season and Lombardi said the Bears need to go in another direction.
"Right now based on what we've seen, the level of performance we have seen out of Chris Williams is not that of a first-round caliber player," he said. "You have to move on and at some point you have to find better players. The reality of it is if you are watching the tape, it's not that hard to figure out."

When did motownbear become an NFL Network Analyst?

I am not neccasserily ready to write him off, but he is not what we thought he was.
I blame Jerry and Lovie as he should not have been drafted over Brandon Albert and he has not been developed properly by being bounced around all over the field.
Another talented player ruined by the Bears.

Just another platitude these analysts (anal being the operative word) say so they can look good. You could say that about a lot of players who don't measure up. I still think he is acclimating to Tice and he will be a decent player. The analyst will then give a suggestion to get better then if the player does will take a form of credit about it-as I was saying, I told you so-and they appear expert.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.
Restore the roar!

um no Chris Williams was labeled soft since before draft day. There are many reasons why Broncos skipped big softy and took Clady. They even cited an example of him being soft at senior bowl practices.
It makes you wonder how bad of a gm we have when in the damn scouting reports there is a back problem and an issue of playing soft. Good luck trying to convince me he is anything other then another JA bust.

If we had to vote for a new GM I would nominate Motownbear.
