I think the greatest should be broken down by position. How do you compare the greatest wr to the greatest rb?

If you notice, Payton was ranked as the greatest RB of all time!

I dunno...no matter who won, someone would disagree so I think Rice is as good a choice as any. But, if I read that right, it looks lilke Jim Brown (RB) is #2, making him the highest ranked at the position. That I definitely disagree with.

*edit* Benji, do you mean the fans rank? Cause the fans did rank him higher...

    Thought Jim Brown was #2,

Thought it was 5 Payton, 4 Montana, 3 LT(Taylor), 2 Jim Brown, 1 Jerry Rice. Still two be the 2nd best running back, and what many believe to be the most complete football player is pretty damn special.

Jim Brown was technically a fullback, and up until the past generation or so, fullbacks ran the ball as well as served as leading blocker. That being said, I think the reason Rice, LT, and Montana ranked ahead of Sweetness is because they won more championships. If you go by pure ability of MLB, I would have listed Dick Butkus ahead of LT. Apparently, LT's propensity for flash because he sacked the quarterbacks of his day a lot AND his playing on championship teams must have been what made the difference between LT being the greatest MLB over Butkus. Still, the Bears were well-represented in the top 100, though there were some omissions that I will address later on.

I don't see anyone ever being better then Jim Brown, over 5 yards a carry average for his career and lead the NFL in rushing 8 of his 9 years. The only knock on him was that he retired early and was at the top when he quit, he might have easily had 20k yards and thats with a 12 game season.

There is so many factors when comparing Butkus to LT. LT did change the game and he was a pass rusher who ended Theismans career. hehe. Butkus was a force to reckon with but he was not the big pass rusher LT was but more of a force when running or passing the ball. Pretty much anybody that got in his way learned the hard way to stay clear of Butkus. As for Montana I think he was the greatest until Peyton Manning came along. During my time of watching wr the 3 best ones I can remember is Jerry Rice, Sterlin Sharp(sp?) and Randy Moss.
