For arguments sake, lets call this Lovies last year.

With an obvious opening in Dallas, and most likely Carolina, and maybe: San Francisco, Minnesota, Denver, and a few possible others, I have to ask a question.

What do the Bears have to offer that will make a Cowher or Gruden, etc..., want to come to Chicago...???

    Offensively:
    QB - yes
    RB - maybe
    WR - no
    TE - yes
O-line - no (several seasons of repair required)

    Defensively:
    DE - yes
    DT - maybe
    LB - yes
CB - yes (I think they would be effective if they were not playing (20) yards off the WR all the time)
S - yes (I am hoping to see more of Wright)

    Special Teams:
    w/ Toub - yes
    w/o Toub - no

    Other:
The McCaskeys have an edge over the likes of an Al Davis type, but, can they offer more, if not as much as a Jerry Jones type...?!? What changes will George McCaskey bring to the table...??? Remember "Dave McGinnis-gate"...??? Do the Bears have an "image" problem...?!? Compared to the other vacancies that may be available, what does the Bears franchise offer...??? There is going to be a lot of work to do this offseason. Will the Bears allow the new coach the freedom to make any changes that he may feel are required...???

The Bears definitely have more to offer than some of the other teams that may be needing a new HC this next season. But, do they have enough...???

A few things that concern me about coaching changes:

    1) We finally get someone that knows offense, but it takes more then 1 off season to pick up and really learn the offense. The OL and Cutler have been confused on many occasions, swapping OC's again just start the process over.

    2) The defense is good, we rank near the top in many categories. Most of the years since Lovie's arrival the defense has been really good, a few years were decimated by injuries but remember what it was like before he arrived? Other then 2001, they stunk almost every year.

    3) The Bears have had a trademark of being the best special teams and one of the best for creating turnovers. Thats not easy to do, I would hate to end up with someone like Childress.

    4) Lovie did win the NFCC, a couple division titles, and beat the packers regularly as he said he would. Again remember what it was like before he arrived. Favre used to beat us constantly, but the tables completely turned when Lovie arrived, nice to beat Favre for a good 4-5 years before he left.

The bottom line is I would like to see a coaching change, but the Bears were awful before Lovie arrived and alot of good has happened. I want someone that makes great personel moves and drafts the rights guys, thats the way to become a SB winner. Just look as the Steeler draft picks and NE draft picks, thats why they are the best. Imagine the Ravens if they didn't draft Flacco and Rice, Rice was gem, its why they are back on top of the NFL by making the right 2 draft picks. Everyone assumes that we will end up with someone better, but my concern is they make the wrong move and end up with a Childress, then we get 5 years of busted draft picks.... the quickest way to the bottom of the NFL (and the Bears have not been good on their high picks, but have been very good on later picks like Hester, Briggs, Tillman, DJ, etc)

Well, the Bears sure do not have a great history with their HC courting prowess. Remember when they brought in Russ Grimm...?!? That was the most obvious attempt to sell us Lovie Smith. Here is our other candidate, Russ Grimm. He eats meat and potatoes and wants to beat the Packers...!!! What a freakin' joke.

Maybe they should outsource the task as they did when they hired Phillips...?!?

    ok... second comment Aside...

I've heard that Cowher is and isn't interested...

All I know is I'm finally ready to move on from Lovie. I'll always appreciated him for the Superbowl (even though we lost, we still went, and that was a dream come true)
Even with 7-9 season's he was better than Juron and Wandstedt, so a few more points for him there...
but I'm ready to get away from the "where'd I park my car" look every sunday....

No kidding. But, if it is not a Cowher or Gruden, what "co-ordinators" would the Bears be targeting...!!! I truly feel that they will take that path again. However, George McCaskey could be the "wild-card" that makes a change...

See.... that's my thing. If Cowher comes in, does he revamp the staff??....

    I wanna see us keep:
    Toub
    Tice
Marinelli (doesn't have to be the DC, but I want him on the team)
    and I'm 50/50 on Martz...
I'm not gonna cry if he get's replaced, but I do think it would be a mistake to try and bring in a 3rd OC in 3 years...

Plus if we get tice some talent to work with, the whole Sack issue in Martz's system could even be nullified....
