    If they get Marty Schottenheimer a big time running back and a good offensive line, I think he would make a marvelous coach. My problem with him is that he is a bit too conservative in tight games. Case and point, his years in Cleveland, and the 2006 AFC Divisional Playoffs against New England. But otherwise, his record speaks for itself. He has a 200-126-1 record, good for a .613 winning percentage. But I would still rather have Bill Cowher.

    No, I was referring to his son, the Jet's OC. Say what you want, but he's had to deal with 4 different QBs during his tenure, and was kept by Rex Ryan after the mangini debacle. What most impressed me was when the Jets were struggling, and he would ALWAYS try something new. If we were to get him, Brad Smith better be part of the deal.

    Oh, my bad. Yeah, he would make a good young coach, but is he experienced enough to take over an NFL franchise? He certain would have the offensive style conducive to succeeding in Chicago when the Winter comes.

    Sorry,I want Lovie,Angelo & Phillips GONE.
    Too many times in their tenure,it's been like witnessing a car wreck;
    it's so shocking and awful,you can't look away.
    Too many mistakes and a history of poor decisions being made.
    The deficiencies are too numerous to mention,it's time to go.
    The fact that there are worse coaches out there,is not an endorsement.
    The Bears faithful have suffered long enough,it's time to finish this debacle.
    Clean house top to bottom,and rebuild what used to be a fearsome franchise.
    On my short list...Cowher,Gruden,Fisher,Taub,Greg Williams,Kyle Shanahan.(contracts notwithstanding).

    Well, he's been an OC since 2006. That's more experience as a coordinator than Lovie had when he was Hired as HC...

    That's definitely food for thought.

    I don't think I'd count Lovie out just yet. With the current record the Bears have they are in line for a possible playoff position. So picking a replacement may be totally moot. There are a lot of ifs in the while deal, but if Lovie was fired and if Mike Singletary was also fired, then my pick would be easy. I don't know if many of you were alive yet when Singletary was playing with the Bears. You'll never see a more hungry and enthusiastic player anywhere. I think of Urlacher as a Singletary lite, and you have to have seen how much he runs from player to player between plays to pump everyone up. Singletary was like that times ten in every play, defense and offense. He was so intense you'd be waiting for him to explode every once in a while. He intimidated the hell out of the other team players with that intensity and he had "the look" when he lined up. If Singletary brought just a little of that power and intensity to the Bears as a head coach, then he'd have the O line doing what they are supposed to be doing. He'd have the defense eating the other team alive. If you've ever seen my uncle Mike (Ditka) chewing his gum back in the mid eighties you'd see how that intensity was born. When things were looking bleak, uncle Mike would chew his gum at a hundred miles an hour. He passed that along to Singletary, and Singletary pumped it up like it was on steroids. Yep, that would be my pick. I think we would be at the Superbowl the year Singletary took the reins, no exaggeration.

    Hi man! I think it's cool that you are the nephew of Coach Ditka. In a weird, but much less personal way, I have a link to a former Chicago Bears great, too. My dad grew up knowing Doug Atkins down here in Knoxville, TN. I have never met Doug before, but I'm getting ready to send him some fan mail and I hope he will be kind enough to respond to it. Dad said that Doug was the biggest man he ever saw in his life, and he's told me some interesting stories from when he used to visit my great-great uncle's and aunt's tavern in town back in the '50s and '60s. I would love to hear stories about your uncle sometime, as I think that despite having a front office that didn't give him a lot of leeway at time especially down toward the end of his tenure as Bears head coach, he should go down as one of the all-time greatest coaches in NFL history and should be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a coach.

    I agree with you on your choice of head coaches should Lovie were to be fired. Singletary had this look in his eyes that was just downright scary when he was getting ready for a snapped play. He was an intelligent player. The reason he is stuggling in San Francisco isn't because of his coaching or motivation skills, but because the organization probably has a pitiful front office. If anything, he is willing them to win despite themselves. I think things will look up for the the Niners with Troy Smith serving as new QB. Singletary would keep things running on a tight ship in Chicago as well. I wish your uncle could come back and coach; that would be awesome.

    While I agree with you about Singletary as a player, I'm not sold on him as a head coach. IMO, Ditka brought a winning attitude to the Bears when he arrived. His intensity is legendary. However, Singletary broke 7 helmets while playing for the Baylor Bears in college. He had that intensity prior to joining the NFL. I'm taking nothing away from Ditka on this, just saying Samurai was already intense.
