everyone's hard on the recievers cause Jay has spent most of his time on his back, so I don't think we've had a fair chance to see what our current reciever are fully capable of.
I've seen Bennett, Hester, Knox, all make AMAZING plays when Cutler get's time and makes a good throw.
I have no idea how I find myself stuck in a debate about the talent on this team...
it's the same thing every year...
first it was the TE... we didnt' have a #1 TE and we were screwed without one.
the it was QB
then it was this
then it was that
Every year, every team... has needs. Some more than others. we have a large amount of talent, and anyone can see that.
We are needy on the O-line and that' it. the Reciever debate is still up for grabs till the O-line starts consitantly giving Cutler an opportunity to get them the ball.
you can't make that call right now... not fairly at least. our Recievers didn't fair so well under turner, have had little time to learn this system, and to top it all off go right back to what I said about the line.
your oppinions are yours, but I think your leaving stuff out... be it intentionally or not... I dont think your taking EVERYthing into considertation. that's not a slam, so don't take it as one.
I said no talent or inexperienced talent. The no talent falls on the OL that has been shit for the bears. With out talent Forte or Taylor will take a beating along with the qb who has very little time to complete a pass. Our Wrs are not bad yet we don't have depth at wr or experience. Angelo has not done well drafting wrs and most of them fail with the bears. I am one of the few people that like Olsen but what I can't figure out it why they do well in one game and completely disappear in other games. What I do hate is when we have a player on offense looks good they either end up in the Lovie dog house or fall on the depth chart. Where in the hell is DA at?
Martz is better than turner but I wonder at times is it Angleo's draft picks that kill this team or is it the coaching staff? I like Tice as the OL coach yet I don't think he can fix the OL in one year. Maybe if he is with the team for a couple of years and the OL gets some more experience they will do better but for now I think we are doomed at OL. If you give Martz the weapons he had in St. Louis I think we would tear up the league but the talent is not there or it lacks experience.

I'm like you... I can't figure out which it is... does Lovie & Co. just get no production out of good players, or are they getting the most they could out of crap players?
I've kinda come to the conclusion that its a little bit of column A and B. I think Angelo does in fact make good decisions from time to time... but I think he also absolutely poohs the bed from time to time also. While I still think Williams may be a good move, its also true that Angelo crapped the bed on the offensive line in general over the last 5 years. On the flip side, despite some crafty moves at WR, I think Lovie & Co. has done a horsecrap job at developing the WR core. I mean... really, you've had Berrian, Moose, Gage, Hester, Knox, DA, and Bennett over the last 5 years and you haven't managed to produce a single pro bowler? How the hell is that even possible with that group of talent?
I'd just clean house in the offseason (assuming the remainder of the season plays out as the first half has). Start fresh, see if we can do better this next time around. We know what we have in Angelo and Lovie: 2 fair to poor football guys. Not trying to kick them while they are down, or say they are bad people or anything like that. They aren't the worst of all time either... but they aren't good enough for the Chicago Bears.

I'm not sure that Jim Harbaugh is the right guy for the job either, though. I mean, as I've said over and over, college coaches have a terrible track record in the NFL. Their rah-rah shit doesn't cut it with the big boys. I still prefer that we fire both Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo, but this all becomes a moot point if the Bears do happen to make the playoffs and/or win the division. If that happens, don't be surprised if the McCaskeys sign the Dynamic Duo to a contract extension.
