Arkush: Rob Ryan [1], Ron Rivera [2] on Bears coaching list.
Now you can take this with a grain of salt but for what it's worth Hub Arkush was on Boers and Bernstein's radio show recently and mentioned that he's hearing from sources around the league that IF the Bears were to make a coaching change next season (which is very much up in the air right now) then Rob Ryan would be the favorite and Ron Rivera would be a close second. We all know last season Hub said that some members of the Bears organization were inquiring about Bill Cowher and trying to gauge his interest level there should they make a coaching change, but now he's reporting that Cowher would likely only come in a package deal, and that the guy who he wanted to bring in with him to be the GM (Kevin Colbert) recently signed a 5 year extension this past summer to stay on with the Steelers organization.
Hub also says that Cowher would not be a candidate to be both the GM and coach himself, which is something I thought made a lot sense for us earlier, but after hearing this I'm assuming Cowher doesn't really have the qualifications to be both a GM and coach. So as you can see Cowher might be tough buy not only because he's going to want the big bucks but also because he's going to want a huge say in who's running the operational side of the team. Anyway, here's the link to the podcast if you're interested in listening to it. The convo with Hub is in hour 5 from 11/10/10.

I think Rob Ryan is exactly what this team needs.
-He brings the energy and in your face attitude that can energize a team and a fan base.
-He runs a hybrid 3-4, 4-3 defense that could really utilize our personnel.
-He is not Lovie Smith.

1 thing: IF Cowher wants to coach again, and the "guy" he wants to bring with him (to any job, not just the Bears), has just signed an extension with the Steelers, then that means hes going to HAVE to coach for another GM irregardless of which team he decides to coach for. So with that in mind, id say the Bears are still n the same place in the Cowher race as they were before.

If Lovie gets them to the playoffs, he keeps his job.

3 Playoffs in 6 years, 1 in the last 4...and another couple years w/out a playoff stint after that....damn the NFC being in a down year.

I'd want Rex in a few years and he can bring in Rob after Lovie's contract extension is expired in a few years. The only way I'd see Chico in here is if we had a total office rebuild. Rob as a HC here honestly I don't know how well he would do.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Pass on both and give me Harbough. Rejuvenate this organization with the RIGHT football attitude and one of the best pro sets offensive schemes in college football. I love the way the guy runs Stanford, the way he communicates with the media and his players, and obviously you have to love the pedigree. It could just be that I'm sick of the recycled crap of the NFL rolling through town, though.
