Brian Urlacher on Brett Favre: “I feel bad for the guy”

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 16, 2010, 4:07 PM EST
Brett Favre didn’t seem overly enthusiastic about the 2010 season even before it started. A disastrous 3-6 start with off-field embarrassment hasn’t helped matters.
After his latest defeat, Favre was seen talking to Chicago’s Brian Urlacher. Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com asked on his AfterParty show what sweet nothings Favre whispered in Urlacher’s ear.
“It wasn’t sweet nothings, I don’t know, it was weird. He was upset, it was probably his last game at Soldier Field for sure. He wasn’t himself. He seemed down in the dumps. I felt bad for him,” Urlacher said.
Glazer pointed out that Favre was probably down because the Bears just pounded the Vikings towards irrelevency.
“Nah . . . usually even after you lose, you’ve still got the rest of the season,” Urlacher said. “But he seemed like he was out of it. Like I said, I feel bad for the guy.”
No matter how you feel about Favre — and we know many have enjoyed watching this Vikings season implode — there’s no denying that he’s enduring a deeply depressing season.
It’s almost impossible for an NFL star to go out on top. The 2009 season was Favre’s best shot, and part of him seemed to know it even before this year started.

    Winston Churchill:
"Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak."

"If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain."

I hate Green Bay, and that is my birthright. I was raised to feel that. So by association I hated the guy who doesn't even know how to pronounce his own last name. Then he switches teams a couple of times. I can't say I hate the teams he went to, but as long as he plays football I'm going to think of him as a cheesehead. When he came to the Vikings, it gave me another reason to cheer for any team beating his. I'm particularly enjoying the fact that those Vikings suck this year but, I don't think they're losing because of Farve. I have to admit that he is one hell of a quarterback, and he's doing ok this year. It takes the whole team along with what the quarterback is or isn't doing to win a game. Hell, Cutler isn't doing nearly as good as he might be if his O-line was protecting him and giving him a better chance of getting a pass off. Our defense has been responsible for a lot of our winning this season. All of it together becomes a winning team. So do I feel bad for Farve? Hell no! His team losing is nothing but good for our team. But do I think Farve is a bad QB? Hell no. As much as I want his team to lose any time that loss is good for my team, I think he's a hell of a good QB. So tough luck for the Vikings. They'll always put the blame of any losing team squarely on the quarterback, its just the mentality of football pundits. They still talk shit about Cutler every time he throws a single interception. It's how news and sports guys are wired. So too bad for the Vikings, and even if you agree that Farve should catch the full blame, I'm going to go on believing that he's a great quarterback. But I'm still going to be glad his team is losing.
