I'll give you Urlacher. I think he deserves it. But, I'm not so sure Hester will make it with just his kick returning stats. He's going to really have to step up in the WR realm to have a shot, I think.

BU had 5 tackles sunday with one sack, and that sack sure was sweet. So BU54 is the Bears all time leader in tackles now. I do believe records for this stat have only been kept since 1971 though.

Hester has 0 chance of being in the HOF. You don't get there just from returning punts.

I think it depends really. If he decimates the return record while also win say 2 or 3 Superbowls, maybe even a SB MVP tossed in for his returns....then he could make the HoF just on his return ability alone. And yes, thats a bunch of huge IFs there.

Umm...not quite. I think you are confusing tackles with sacks, and those were only made official stats in 1982. NFL still does not recognize tackles as an official stat, even though they record them in record books. And teams often have wildly different tackle numbers then what the NFL has.
Even so, Lach probably still legitimately owns the Bears all time tackle record simply by the fact that the NFL season is 16 games now, opposed to lesser number in the past.

Singletary held the previous tackle record and seasons when he played were 16 games each.

Yes...im aware of that. I was talking about players from the past before Tackles were recorded, or not recorded as accurately...like Butkus for instance.

This thread isn't about that. Feel free to start one.

This thread isn't about tackle records?
