Whether Lovie helped sign Martz & Marinelli because they were his buddies or not, both moves have improved the team & paid off. Both have proven track records as assistants & it's awesome having them work their magic with this team. Them 2 along with Toub & Tice makes this one of the best assistant coaching staffs in the NFL
Martz is not working HIS magic though, he is working RT's playbook; given he appears to be better at it though...run game, and passes to the TE is not why you hire Martz. Again RM was hired to be the DL coach, not DC. Both moves are only working more out of luck then on the reason they were actually hired...and if we had actually bothered to actually try and hire the best available person it might have ended up just as well, or better.
Martz is doing what Lovie Smith told him to do. He's balancing the run with the pass almost 50/50. So far, it's worked to perfection. We wear down the defensive line of teams in the second and third quarters, and then by the fourth quarter, we're reeling off big runs. Add that to the fact that Cutler has been taking care of the ball better lately and is simply managing the offense, and you have for a pretty efficient offensive unit.
