I'm OK with keeping Lovie but not Jerry. He has brought in some FAs and traded for Cutler but the Bears need a hella good draft next year and drafting has not been Jerry's strong suit.

I'll never be a Lovie Smith fan because I don't like his style of game day coaching at all, he's has no sense of the offense whatsoever except to proclaim that "we get off the bus running" even when we're throwing 40 times a game and he's already proven twice the his vaunted defense is much better off without him running it!
What I will give him credit for is finally putting together a staff that's becoming a difference maker when it comes to developing players and designing better game plans. In addition the players truly like the guy and they play for him. It's apparent that there's little or no dissension on the at all.
Unless he really falls on his face from now until seasons end there really isn't any justifiable reason for replacing him.
As for Angelo, is he doesn't get more mileage out of his early round (1st-3rd) picks I'd be willing to kick him to the curb after the 2011 season.

I'm unconvinced that Jerry and Lovie should stay,
Jerry will probably retire as he handpicked his repacement.
We are forgetting Ted Phillips in all this too,he needs to be gone.
Look at what it's taken to get here, and there is still some tough games to play.
I cannot forget and forgive the inexplicable things Lovie has done along the way.
There should be NO talk about an extension at this point.(at least in Halas Hall).
I am cheering for the team to run the table and win the big one.
But I am not sold yet,on this turnaround having any legs.
I'd love to be wrong,and have this become an annual contending franchise;
but I just don't see that happening in the long term, the history says otherwise.

I definitely agree with you on Ted Phillips. He needs to go away. There are lots of things that Lovie Smith has done that have pissed me off, from his attitude and dismissiveness to the media and fans, to his bad decision making. He sticks to old cliches and that stubbornness can get him into trouble. Nevertheless, it looks like he is capable of improving and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He needs to get us to the post season, and then we need to have success once we get to the post season. One and done is unacceptable to me. It looks like we have the talent, let's see what happens.

The thing we should all remember, too, is that coaches keep the players techniques in check. They also call strategy. If something's out of whack there, then you know it's on the coach.
And 4th, Bill Cowher is probably another Bill Parcells. He might stay three or four years, but he won't stay for a long period of time in Chicago. The only way I bring in Bill Cowher would be to fix a mess, and right now, there is no mess needing to be fixed.

Shea - gone, and rightfully so, but, he under-performed.
Rivera - gone.
Turner - gone.
Assorted other assistants and coaches - gone.
BABICH - underperformed, sucked, has NO defined role, and is still on the staff.
The thing I can not stand about Lovie is that he sucks as a head coach. He plays the money players and retains anybody in HIS good ole' boy network.
Thomas Jones, gone. For who, Cedric Benson...!!! A high draft pick, money player.
Desmond Clark, seemingly gone. For who, Brandon Manumanlalalalalalama. (3) receptions...???
Ron Rivera, gone. Bob Babich is official team jock sniffer. None the less he still gets paid.
WR's gone. Hester shoved down our throat as a #1.
Caleb Hanie, who...??? Oh no, Todd Collins is your back-up...
The ONLY reason Lovie is seeing any success this season is because they were lucky enough to have signed so many former head coaches to supplement Lovies ineptitude.
Hell, this F'ing FOOL could barely run his OWN defense last season...!!! Come on people, WAKE UP...!!!

I see a different Lovie this year though. No longer do the veterans of the team run the team it is the coach. Before locker room lawyers like TJ harmed the team. Guys like Clark dont see the field. Bowman got benched for poor play rather then keep trying to pimp a draft pick out there that isnt doing good. Harris got benched. Chris Harris is sharing time with Wright. I dont see the same stuborness to change like past years
the one thing I have noticed that hasnt changed is the sense of urgency when we have a lead.

Is that because puppets like Babich are no longer in positions of power...?!?
If it was not for the current coaching staff, I truly believe Lovie would still be forcing his hand...

Personally, I think it was a combination of pressures. I think Lovie realized that philosophies needed to change, but I also think that upper management pushed back as well. Did it come from Phillips or Virginia? We'll never know of course. I do think that if no pressure came from up top, Lovie would not have changed his views, and that I think is an indictment against him. But, he did make the changes and I think he must realize it was for the better. Maybe that is part of his maturation into a better head coach, maybe not.
