Considering the play of Cutler and Knox it's definitely beginning to look like we got the better of that trade.
KO and 3 picks(2 firsts) was a TON, and guess what, when we traded for cutler the same could have been said, shitty D no run support made him have to throw a lot which padded his stats. KO is looking like a solid qb, and his primary WR just tied a record w/Jerry Rice for 1100 yards and 19ypc; it's not the dink and dunk kid we knew here. Their O and specifically KO is not their problem; a stupid HC, and a horrid D is thier problem.
I like having cutler, but looking at some of the young qb talent out there, Flacco, Mccoy, Stafford, the kid in SF, STl, and TB(forgot their names), I think we could have kept our picks(ecpsecially if we had just taken Flacco) and been just as good as we are now...but w/more young O talent around him(maybe some OL or wr's). This team has glaring weakness b/c of the picks we lost(not so much KO) and this run once we get to the playoffs is going to get REAL tough b/c of them.
Now back to the real reason about this....well Nerrad, like many said, if you shift through enough trash your bound to find a gem. And you also said Rex was a good qb; he's still not....

Actually Ric it was primarily KO and the two firsts since we got a 5th rounder (Knox) in exchange for our 3rd. I think we can all agree he's been worth every bit of that and a bag of chips. I consider his kick return and receiving skills in combination to be worth at least as much as the 2nd round pick we spent on Hester. I'm not saying that he's as much of a difference maker as Hester has been but I am saying that I believe we got the equivalent of a 2nd round talent in the 5th round. Kudos to the scouting staff on that one.
I agree with you that Orton is a much better passer now than he ever was in Chicago and to large degree he has McDaniels to thank for that. Belichik Jr. may not know his head from his ass as a head coach, and his handling of player relations leaves a lot to be desired, but he does know his stuff when it comes to developing QB's. Orton has also had much better play calling and better receivers here than he did in Chicago. Especially now that Brandon Lloyd is finally playing at the level many expected him too when he came into the league.
Still, I'm sticking with my opinion that Kyle Orton will never take the Broncos through the playoffs and into a Super Bowl and I think that Cutler not only can, but eventually will. Maybe the trade was one 1st rounder too much but I'll still take what we got out of the trade over what the Broncos did. Those two firsts haven't done a damn thing to improve their defense or help to mount an effective running game so far.

Can we get Falco for a backup? He's gotta be better than Collins! LOL

I wish we could get Kerry Collins in as a back up quarterback for the Bears. We would have the best one-two punch in the league. Though, on second thought, he might get killed with the way our OL is unpredictable at times since he doesn't move around in the pocket that well.

Ya all Flacco has done(in less time in the league) has gone to 5 playoff games and 3 of them, has basically the same ypa, comp %, yards and has more TD's and less int's...why the hell would you want a guy like that...who would have only cost you ONE 1st rounder over 2 firsts a 3rd and a player.

Getting a team to a SB is not a single player issue; If the Bronco's had any sort of a D or a running game they would be in a serious playoff hunt. But their HC is a moron and they will continue to struggle. Conversly what did Cutler do w/a bad coach, no D or run support last year? He also was not capbale of a playoff or SB run...w/that he is now....I think KO is proving he could be in the same situation also. The Bronco's choosing poorly w/thos pics doesn't justify what we lost in them...and Knox could have been picked up by us w/or w/out their 5th in return so he's a moot point(if we have our 3rd we could have taken him w/our 4th or 5th).

Need I remind everyone of two special players who either didn't win a championship until later in his career or didn't win jack shit at all?
Walter Payton played on some of the worst teams ever assembled by the Bears between the years 1975 and 1983, with the exception of 1977 and 1979. It wasn't until Ditka came in and cleaned house and drafted some stellar athletes that we began to compete for championships.
As for the other player, consider Barry Sanders. Yes, he made the playoffs a few times as a member of the Lions (including getting to the NFC Championship Game in 1991), but he NEVER won a championship, and played on some terrible Detroit teams as well.
I don't see anybody accusing those two players of being bad or being big fish in a little pond. I think Kyle Orton can go places, and even though he's more like Archie Manning right now than he is Peyton Manning (Archie never had any success in New Orleans, while Peyton has a Super Bowl MVP Award at our expense), he can still be considered a very good to great player.
