I like how now that Cutler has a winning season and we are looking at making the playoffs winning matters more then #'s, but when we made the trade the fact that he had never had a winning season but had great stats made him the better qb. KO is looking very solid; they are not losing b/c of him but a gawd awful D and a bad head coach. I like Cutler as a Bear, and he's better the KO hands down, but never liked how much we gave up in that trade. Saying we got knox is also crazy we could have taken him in the 4th or 5th w/our own pick(but this is a side note and not worth debating in this thread).
Our #1 wr is tied for 50th(27th in the NFC) in the league in catches and 79th in TD's(39th in the NFC, behind Olsen, Bennett and Forte our TE, Posession WR and RB). Some of his #'s look really good, but catches show a lack of reliability reliability, and I'll take TD's over yards anyday. This team is still in deep need of a legit #1 threat at the position, we have our 2 and 3 guy slotted, but if you think Knox is a #1 b/c he had a good ypc average and is barely projected to eek out 1000 yards your nuts their are two guys w/over what he is projected right now.
I am happy w/the ypc and the total yards, but looking a the guys around him in yards(3 above and 3 below) Only Santana Moss has less then double his TD's, and Only Gates(hurt a good portion of the year) and Mike Williams(rookie in TB not a great passing team) have less then 50 receptions(both have around 45 and more then Knox). Now there are guys around him that are big names(Miles Austin, Gates and Larry Fitz), but to be fair, those guys are around them b/c 2 lost their QB's(one to retirment the other to season injury) and the other Gates is again has been injured. Looking at everything Knox is a great improvement over what we have had, but he is not a #1 wr at this point.

1- I care about what a receiver does when he has the ball, not how many times he has it. When Knox has the ball he makes plays. Desean Jackson is really the only one that sticks out as a better deep ball threat & BTW, Desean only has 35 Rec's & 5 TD, neither is spectacular & pretty much every Eagles fan considers him a #1
2- Our team spreads the ball out to 5 guys with less intent on focusing on one specific receiver
3- 1000 yards is still a benchmark for a receiver. Less than 20 guys are projected for 1000 yards, it's a very key number. If less then 2/3 of teams have a 1000% receiver, it's quite notable
He's 24 & already showing immense promise. He has awesome route running, hands, blocking, strength & speed. He's fastly become one of my favorite players on the team

Knox is only 260 yds away from 1000 and he is leading the bears in yardage. Olsen leads for receiving TDs. I think Knox can break 1000.

Not to hijack this thread, but I think we got the better of the deal in the Cutler trade. KO is average at best. Wherever he is, playing for whatever team, that team will look to replace him. Most of his "great" stats this year come in garbage time. He still can't throw the deep ball consistently. KO killed this team year in and year out because no opposing D worried about the deep ball. They stacked up against the run and watch the short to mid range throws.
Cutler on the other hand, is again playing his first year in a new system. He is getting better as the season goes on. He has played great besides a very few times (see Wash game). He can make throws no othe QB in the league can make. Not to mention the fact the guy is mobile and getting better at deciding when to run. Two 1st's, a 2, and KO might seem like alot but he has been worth it. Hell, he's worth more.
Debate is one thing. Losing love for your country is another.

KO's #1 wr is set to break Jerry Rice record of 1100 yards and a 19 ypc average, and you think he is just getting it done in garbage time and not going deep? Your not watching the games.....While I agree he's not great, he's having a great season, you don't average 300+ yards a game, lead the league in yards, have just a fraction of a point short of 8ypa(7.9 same as Cutler), w/20 td's and 6 int's, and only get it done in garbage time and w/only dumping the ball off. And he's also doing it w/teams knowing they cannot run the ball; teams are playing to stop the pass. Also only Phillip Rivers has more 20+ and 40+ yard plays, those are not all dump off's and yac's. And it's not like he has a legit #1 wr, he has a cast off that seems to have found life and a bunch of scrubs like ours.
end of hijaked...sorry....
Knox is a #2 when you look at all his, and not just a select few. Bennet is also a nice 2 or 3, but only as a posession guy. We still need to find that big bodied fast wr that can be relied on to go up and get that jump ball to bail out Cutler.

The # 1 WR debate is so useless it is nearly incomprehensible. It would be fine with me if we kept Bennett, Knox, Hester and a fourth like DA or another project. All three of those guys make plays and are capable of making BIG plays. All three are dangerous returners as well. All this number 1 crap is just not getting it. It is like my kids having to have the latest toy, it is only for appearance to say, LOOKIE WHAT I HAVE!! You need competent receivers that are there when you need them, and we have that.
On Orton, I am happy for him, personally, he is having a GREAT year. the team and coach are no good, but Kyle is going to find a good home and contract very soon.

if we dont need a number one wr then martz was the wrong hire and Cutler the wrong qb for the job. So it isnt useless. If Martz system is to work to the potential it can with a qb like Cutler and with running backs like Taylor and Forte then we need that go to guy Cutler can trust. Bennett to me is the best wr we have and he still isnt a number go to target

I want a guy like Johnson that will rip someone's helmet off and start firing lol

I've said this in another thread, but I think we need to draft someone in the late first round to be our new go-to WR. Most likely, the three WR's who are projected to go in the first round are going to be that Blackmon kid out of Oklahoma State, A.J. Green out of Georgia, and Julio Jones out of Alabama. Julio Jones is 6'4" and is more than adequate for Martz's system. The only thing I worry about Julio Jones is that he came from an offense in which the quarterback didn't have a very good arm, so he didn't really catch a great deal number of deep passes. He is a great route runner, and I think he could become a big threat getting open down the field.
What do you guys think?

He needs to learn that not every ball needs to be on the money for him to catch it. Sometimes he has to go get it from a defender. Other than that, I love him.
