Robbie Gould: Most clutch player in Bears arsenal?

If any player on any football team has more impact in a game's outcome than the kicker, please tell me! So many games hang in the balance on just a few points, and how many times is a kicker asked to go put up some points? Looking around the league at teams we're playing or just watching other games that I happen to come across, I'm appalled at the ineptitude of some of these teams' kickers. I mean these guys miss routine 20-30 yarders. I just saw the Bengals kicker miss an extra point yesterday, the following drive Cininnatti had to go for a two point conversion just to keep the game even.

I just said that I'm appalled by it, does this mean I'm spoiled? Does everyone realize just how fortunate we are that we have "Mr. Automatic!" How many teams' seasons were ruined because of the kicker? It can mean the difference of making the post-season or not, winning the Super Bowl or not.

I think he was released by the Giants and the Bears called him up while he was hammering nails as a carpenter! I hope he stays long term like Kevin Butler did, how many years did we have Butler? Remember, Butler has the team record for all time points, Gould could surpass that!

We are very fortunate. I think he is the highest paid kicker in the league, he deserves every penny!

Well said. Robbie Gould was a real find. If I'm not mistaken he was in the Pats camp while they still had Vinateri and the Bears picked him up after the Pats let him go. Right now I'd say he's every bit the equal of him a clutch kicker. It wouldn't surprise me if he eventually ended up as the most accurate PK in NFL history.

I'd also say he could be one of the most improved with extending his FG range and kickoff range. Seems to get better as the seasons go by.

Someone I was talking to said he spent a lot of time in the off season on leg strength excercises in order to increase his range. I'd say it's paid off big time!
