The Spread Offense vs The Cover 2

After watching the game last night I noticed that the Pats offense is unique to the NFL and looks difficult to stop.
I feel that the Cover 2 has a great shot at slowing down the dink and dunk passing attack.
-Tom Brady feasted on the blitz when the small throws became huge gains in one on one situations.

The Bears do not blitz and with the exception of the first half on Sunday they have tackled well and gang tackled.

-The Jets LB core got turned around and on half of the completions were facing away from Brady when the ball was completed.

The Bears LBs have played really well and they are always facing the line of scrimmage.

-The Patriots want to throw it 6-7 yards from the line of scrimmage and do not really have a deep threat.

The Bears in their Cover 2 have 5 guys standing in the 6-7 yards from scrimmage, which will hopefully cloud the throwing lanes.

I think that our defense has a real shot to slow down the Patriots.

I think the Patriots will try to go vertical with the TE's and then go underneath once that happens.

If I recall correctly, Ben Watson had a big game against us the last time we met. I'll bet they'll try to make the same happen this happen with their young guys.

What's Roach's status for Sunday? I know Pisa is already ruled out. It's going to suck if Rod Wilson is our answer out there. We might be in a lot of nickel.

Roach's out too...wilson starts. I think nickle is the way to go regardless. the pats are fast on offense, woodhead and welker were all over the field last night. key though is to tackle immedialtely, otherwise the YAC will kill us.

I think we may have to play more nickel. D.J Moore covering Welker and/or perhaps Wright covering a TE if Roach can't go. I really hope we can get some interior pressure.
    From the CB homesite:
On the shelf: Strongside inebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after missing two of the last three games. The Bears hope that Nick Roach will recover from the hip injury that knocked him out of the Lions game to start in Tinoisamoa's place against the Patriots.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Actually the Cover is set up to ENCOURAGE the dink dunk. you take away the deep plays, and keep the ball in front of you so you can attack the ball carrier if the ball doesn't get picked off.

the weak spots are 15-20 yard outs between the safety and CB.
Quick 5-10 yard slant's to get inbetween the outside backers and Middle LB.
Screens, and Draw plays. I would expect a healthy dose of those things from Brady and CO.

Outside of that there's a reason so many teams still use the Cover 2 in some way. it's hard to beat. you have to basically chip at it, and hope you don't cough up the ball in the process.

yeah...I wonder if we'll be jamming the wr's at the LOS to help the DL and slow Brady's timing off. Brady doesn't throw very many picks, and he hasn't been sacked very much either...just keep his ass off the field. also, the DT's need to be huge and peppers needs sacks, not just hurries.

I just wanna see urlacher get payback on Brady. . .

you know how many Pats fans I had to listen to, talk about how Tom Brady "juked" Urlacher... urlacher said after that game "I was sure he was going to slide,".... well... slide or not, I wanna see UB knock that smug look into the back of his head.

I have said this once: I want to see Gisele in the nude, and I'd pay to watch her get raw dogged by Brady so long as they don't show much of him and focus mainly on her.

That being said, that juke that Brady put on Urlacher sucked. I still recall that, and it sucked. Then, Gross, man went out and floated one up when he had nearly two minutes to drive the ball down the field and it was intercepted, thus ending our chances of a comeback.

But also, on the Cover 2 front, I think the same strategy that was employed in the Eagles game would work Sunday, only we wouldn't have to play our safeties all that deep since New England's vertical passing game isn't as good as the Eagles'. Making Brady work hard to get down the field on long drives seems like the best policy to me.

I think you'll see the Bears D take the same approach as they did with the Packers.

Because the Patriots will get the ball out so quickly, the DL needs to be sure to get their hands up and block passing lanes.
