Herman Johnson, OL, LSU
Johnson is an absolute mammoth of an offensive linemen. Even in a day and age when all of the guys up front are nothing less than massive, Johnson can be an intimidating physical presence at guard. He is 6'7 and a weight of 355 pounds might even be an understatement. While Johnson's size clearly sets him apart, it's the rest of his game that really makes the former LSU star a close to can't miss NFL prospect. Quite simply, men that large are not supposed to move the way Johnson can move. His straight-ahead speed, however, is more impressive than his lateral movement (which probably is not good enough to be a staple at, say, left tackle in the NFL). He has played both guard and tackle, but he projects to stay at guard on Sundays. Johnson started all 14 games for the Tigers at left guard as a junior in 2007 and all 13 games at the same position as a senior. He has been First-Team All-SEC the past two seasons and he was a First-Team All-American in his swansong at LSU. Johnson started 10 games at guard as a sophomore as well, so he has the experience to step in and make an impact at the next level right away. His quickness and technique, however, must continue to improve as his size will not be as much of a factor in the NFL, where other linemen can match it. Johnson looks like a solid second-round pick, but probably not a first-rounder simply because tackles are more valued.
do you agree with this kronik? Favorite stat about him...he was born at 15lbs, 14 oz. Biggest baby in Louisiana history.

Yeah, it's his basic scouting report. He's a behemoth who dominated upon lock-on, who struggled mightily at times against better pass rushers because his feet and quickness were just not there at 400 pounds. I haven't seen him play in damn near two years now, though, so there is always the chance for improvement. If he learned to get his feet set faster than his previous glacial pace, he has a chance.

all this talk about him playing gauard, and not suited for tackles makes me think williams could be seing the door... or Omiyale the door, and williams back to LT.
Reports say he's good enough to be a playmaker even as a rookie... this has me VERY intrigued.

We all know the OL is the weakest unit (for years now). add anyone that might help out, but I don't see them sitting any of the starters the rest of this year.
Debate is one thing. Losing love for your country is another.

I wouldn't look to add him to the starting line up in the OL until later.
