Urlacher: 'I feel like we're the best team, period'
Urlacher: 'I feel like we're the best team, period'
Bears prepare for showdown with Patriots at Soldier Field Brad Biggs
The Chicago Bears are the best team in the NFL, in the estimation of middle linebacker Brian Urlacher, so he’s looking forward to the challenge of hosting the AFC-leading New England Patriots on Sunday at Soldier Field.
It’s a huge game for both teams as they vie for a spot in the playoffs, and it’s the second time in three weeks the Bears will face a first-place team at home. They hosted the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 28, defeating Michael Vick 31-26, and now they face a similarly hot quarterback in Tom Brady.
“Remember, we have them at home … the same like Philly,'' Urlacher told Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune. "When we played Philly, everybody was saying they were the best, right? It's the same situation, and hopefully the same result.
"New England is the best team in the NFL, record-wise. But I feel like we're the best team, period. That's why I say record-wise. They have the best quarterback, numbers-wise. And everybody likes to go by numbers, right?''
It will be the first time Tom Brady has played at Soldier Field in his career. He was the fourth quarterback behind Drew Bledsoe, Michael Bishop and John Friesz when the Patriots last played there in 2000. The 2002 meeting between teams was held at the University of Illinois while the Bears renovated Soldier Field.
"Right now, (Brady) is playing better than anybody,'' Urlacher said. "There's no doubt about that. Comparing with Peyton Manning, they're just different. Well, maybe they're not different because both run their offenses. Whatever they want to do, they do it. But Brady's doing it better right now.
"He doesn't make any mistakes with the football. You're not going to trick him. You just better stick to your roles.''
It’s a big opportunity for the Bears, who are one game ahead of the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North. They trail the Atlanta Falcons by a game for the best record in the conference. The Bears have had doubters for most of the season, and they’re coming off a lethargic victory at Detroit. It’s a chance to prove they are among the elite within a month of the start of the postseason.

God, this reminds me of them saying SUPER BOWL all the time in TC in 2007.

I like a leader like Urlacher puttiiing this out there. It's not like a #2 WR saying they will win. It's the leader of the defense putting it on his unit. We all know to beat the Pats the D will have to play lights out. To be the best team the D will have to dominate. They can't come out flat like they did with Detriot. For him to come out there and say this one day before they get back at it is something I think he calculated and thought out.

The best team in the NFL period? That's a pretty bold statement given the Bears rather amemic offensive output and considering the way that NE buried a vaunted Jets defense Monday night. IF the Bears do manage to beat NE then I'd have to say Urlacher's position becomes a little more valid.
I'm not discounting it out of hand but I am saying that they need to get by this game before they can start laying claim to that title.

What's he gonna say? We're the 4th best team in the league? We hope we don't get embarrassed at home? If members of the Bears do not think they can win this or any other game, then there really isn't any point. They better believe that they can win a super bowl. This year, with the current personnel. And I have no problem with BU putting it out there. Pretty boy Brady and co. can hang it up in the locker room and work themselves frenetic about it if they want to. (they won't btw)

Maybe the point here is to not say anything that gives NE any more bulletin board material than needed. You seem to disagree. I don't disagree with you that the approach he took in rallying the defense around him is a great approach and they should believe that they can beat anybody.
But the point in what I am saying is that the Bears are not the best team in the NFL until they prove that they can beat the best and right now I'd say that team plays in Massachusetts.

idk about best team but they look pretty dominant on defense. I think we are a wr and a full oline away from being one of the most dominant looking teams.

Since they stopped turning the ball over so much, I'd say they're playing the best ball in the league. With that defense and special teams, I'd say they are the best.
One thing noone, and I mean noone talks about with the Bears is their ability to play from behind.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but of the Bears 9 wins I believe they've only led the entire game twice (Minnesota and Miami). Every other game they've been behind and taken the lead. In some games, multiple times (Detroit twice, Green Bay).
Their tendency not to panic when down and that defense.....man, I don't think a team in the league is better than Da Bears

If I were Urlacher, I would have said something along the lines that I think that we're as good as anyone in the league, not that we are the best. He's risking us falling into the same trap as Rex Ryan and the Jets did this past week.

Brian Urlacher's statement wasn't loud and idiotic. If he started acting goofy then I'd be really worried about him being like Ryan..
