Berrian.
He's been a ghost in Minnesota for sure, but he looked to be such a playmaker when he was here.
his contract is up in Minnesota after this year, and I've got mixed feelings on the guy. I would LOVE to have 2006 Berrian back in the lineup, but my concern is he was a flash in the pan, one trick pony.
thoughts? could we get him at a good price? would we WANT him if he was available at a fair price?...
with Bennett REALLY turning it on and a solid year under Hester and Knox's belt...
we add a solid player or 2 on the line and open up the playbook for the DEEP martz attack, I don't see why we wouldn't go after Bernard?...
Save a draft pick for a more pressing need ya know?...
anyway. discuss.

I'll don't think he's better then anyone we have on the roster, and that includes Hester...what we need is a legit 1 wr, which is what BB is not, and has proved that in Minny.

Not saying he's a #1. But earl Bennett is displaying a LOT of those qualities. YAC. sure hands. good leaping ability. and he's quick. not the fastest guy, but he can go from 0 to "right now" in the blink of an eye.
If there is a big 6'3" to 6'5" reciever like a Moss or Owens (minus the Diva attitude) I'd be 100% behind going after the guy.
I'm trying to see it from the coaches perspective as best I can, and Martz is pretty high on what we have. (similar to New England with small quick recievers, proving you don't ALWAYS need a #1 although they are fun as hell to watch)
we need Beef on the O-line bad. and I wouldn't be opposed to using our first AND second rounds to find a solid guy to shore up the weak links.
Thoughts?

I was sure someone would ask this when I heard the report that he could be gone from the Queens yesterday.
I do not believe that Berrian upgrades us at all. With another year in Martz' system, I believe that Knox, Bennet, Hester and Aromashadu could be one great WR corps for a LONG time to come. I really believe that. They are not that now, so don't go flaming me, but they are definitely doing a GREAT job this year. They have flaws, and they need to have more time in the system, but I see this group being special.

I'm with Grizzly and still a believer in that JA needs to sign/draft a WR that's well over 6-foot. Martz's system needs it (i.e. Bruce/Holt) and Cutler flourished with one in Denver (i.e. Brandon Marshall)
As far as BB is concerned... he has been a bust for what the Viks signed him for. Glad we didn't waste any cap space fighting to resign him.

Let me be clear... I'm not mixing up the "bring berrian to chicago Kool-aid"...
I jsut heard the news myself, and was more of less wondering out loud.

I would not mind having him back but I would rather invest in a better wr than him in FA. I have always felt he was good vs shitty teams but disappear in big games.

I don't think BB would add anymore than what we have right now. He's basically a deep ball type and we already have that times two in Knox and Hester. I believe what we could really use is a taller, big body type who can work the underneath routes as well as providing a mismatch against smaller corners, especially in the red zone. Find a guy who's 6'3" or 6'4" and goes over 220 lbs but don't use anymore than a mid round pick to get him. It's a need but not a major one in my opinion.

I don't think that Berrian is a fit for Martz's system. And I also think it is very telling if he didn't get any action this year with all the injuries Minny had at WR.
Plus, I'm not really one that thinks that what we already have doesn't suit us. I wouldn't mind a mid round draft ala what soulman said, but I don't think seeking someone out in FA is the way to go (expensive).
