Hester return stats are better this year then when he broke the NFL record
Pretty amazing, Hester's return statistics on both punts and kickoffs this year are FAR better in both categories then when he broke the TD records in 2006 and 2007. Over 35 a return on KR and over 17 on PR. Goes to show you how much inches make a difference, because there are a handfull of returns where he almost got in the endzone and didn't. Statistically he's had an incredible season, I didn't know if we would ever see anyone have a return year like 2006/2007 again.

Honestly, I think one of the considerations for the Hall of Fame is how you impact the game. You can say, without a doubt that Hester changed the game in the following ways:
1) caused teams to kick out of bounds a lot more against him than any other KR/PR; thus having a bigger impact than anyone else doing the same
2) setting several records with an unprecedented quickness at said position.
3) Caused other teams to copy what the Bears did and look for "the next Hester"
I'd still give him say, 4 more years of high quality returns before saying HOF no question, but he's certainly getting there

If he keeps it up for a longer period of time, he deserves the HOF as much as anyone at any position. If a player is the Greatest Of All Time at that position, he should be in.

agreed this year is even better.. and alot has to do with 2006 and even part of 2007 they DID KICK TO HIM.. now the only time he sees it is when its a "mistake" and stays in bounds,or pooched and has to kick up without the good blocking on kickoffs
2006 had 20 KR and 47 PR
2007 had 43 KR and 42 PR
2010 has 12 KR and 31 PR
So his chances are down close to 35-50%( 67 and 85 attempts to 43) and obviously more game planed and known now..but still has highest averages, despite some being called back.. you can def make the argument best year

To me Hester is the greatest return man to ever play the game. Every time he touches the ball there's a chance of him taking it to the house. Given his records as a returner he should be a lock as a HOF'er. Add to that the returns that have been called back by a penalty and those where he was finally stopped just short of the endzone like the Vikings game and there's no way to argue that he isn't the best returner of all time and that put's him above some very talented players.

i think a petition needs to be started to adopt a rule that punts aren't allowed to be kicked directly out of bounds. a punter would have to bounce it inbounds first. CFL has this rule and it makes it more exciting when u have a returner like hester back there that u know he has a chance to get his hands on the ball

Which is exactly why it wont happen. They already have a punishment for kicking it out of bounds...loss of FP.
