Packers coach labels Hester Bears best player
Glad we didn't trade trade him for PS squads or draft picks
, and glad he is still the difference maker many of us thought and kept him
Packers coach labels Hester Bears best player
McCarthy: 'He has impacted pretty much every game they have won'
Devin Hester promised he wouldn't let up after his record-setting 14th career kick return touchdown against the Vikings. He could pad his mark Sunday at Lambeau Field.
The Pro Bowl return man already has two career touchdown returns against the Packers, including a 62-yard punt return for a score in September.
"I think Devin Hester is the best player on their football team,'' Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "He is having an incredible season. He has impacted pretty much every game they have won.''
Toy story: Hester didn't forget to thank the guys who helped pave the way for his NFL record. He expressed his gratitude with 14 remote-control cars and helicopters as gifts for his special teams teammates.
I loved it, but I can't figure mine out,'' blocker and fellow receiver Rashied Davis said. "I got a remote-control gas car, and I broke it.''
Typically, the value of items falls in the range of $120 to $600.
Pro Bowling: Coach Lovie Smith acknowledged Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, Julius Peppers and Hester for being selected for the Pro Bowl.
"It was not a surprise to me,'' Smith said. "… All four guys have played outstanding for us this year, definitely the top of the class and all of that.''
Last year, Johnny Knox was the Bears' lone representative after Briggs pulled out with an injury.
"It kind of feels funny going out there by yourself,'' Hester said. "Hopefully this year, (Urlacher) will go. The other two times I went to the Pro Bowl, 'Lach never came. Lance always participated. And Julius, it will be a great opportunity to be in the Pro Bowl with him as well.''
Injury update: Receiver Earl Bennett (ankle), linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa (knee), and center Olin Kreutz (not-injury related) did not participate in practice Wednesday. Smith said he expected Kreutz to return Thursday after what appeared to be a veteran's day off, while Smith said he hoped Bennett would return by Friday.
For the Packers, Cullen Jenkins, who missed the last three weeks a calf injury, was held out of practice, as were linebacker Frank Zambo (knee), kick returner Sam Shields (knee) and guard Marshall Newhouse (back).
Extra points: Matt Forte has been nominated for the NFL's FedEx Ground player of the week after his 113-yard rushing performance against the Jets. … The Bears signed receiver Rashaun Greer to the practice squad and terminated the practice-squad contract of linebacker Simoni Lawrence.

So Hester is the SOLE reason we won our games??
I hates those Fudge Packers... Having Cutler, and Martz didn't play a factor at all??
Actually I would say the offensive line playing like a "swing gate" as the sole factor that LOST us our games..... The games where they allowed like 5 or more sack we lost pretty badly...

Hester changes games, not only with the returns but just field position which the Bears have owned since he arrived. The rest of the Bears special teams is also really good though, so its more then just Hester. I agree he's one of their best players, and I also agree the Packers are one of the worst special team units I have ever seen in the NFL.

Actually think he's saying he "IMPACTED" all games, not the SOLE reason.. and i'd agree with that.. not the SOLE reason, but didn't impact all games with either returns or catches or better field position if kicked away.
And hester has had some great games against the packers, and actually the WHOLE ST usually KILLS the packers also probably colors mccarthy's remarks. hester returned a punt and peppers blocked a Fg in 2010.. we have had blocked fg's, blocked punts and hester returns for td's aaginst the packers under mccarthy in almost all games, really got to be a nightmare for him and his bad ST unit

Interesting fact I read yesterday, since Week 8 of the NFL season no other team in the NFL has run more rushing plays than the Chicago Bears.

Yep, having Hester as a threat at his true skill position(s) returner has made a real impact in games. No one can argue that. That success has been made possible by Hester not being forced down everyone's throat as a "#1" receiver. He still makes nice plays at WR, but seems to be targeted more like a #2 or #3, which is all anyone was saying before the season.

noone complained about him as a kicker. Actually they wanted exactly this for Hester to be allowed to stay the great kick returner he was and not ruin it with wr overload.
you cant tell me he has met anyones expectations at wr? I mean I thought he would become the next Steve Smith and Im sane enough to say he isnt the next steve smith and wont be the next steve smith and it was a mistake making him a full fledge wr. That is all this season is proving.

Teams have said that even though he hasn't showed up on the stat sheet much, he's a threat on offense and teams to game plan for him. . . that's huge for a guy not concidered an "elite" or even "top tier" reciever.

Im going to go by Martz words that he is a slot wr like Hakim was. He has the worst stats as a num one wr in Mike Martz coaching history

Think he can do both... and as have seen the last few weeks is scoring receiving td's again... and jsut the "threat" of hester at WR. opens up Bennett and olsen underneath doesn't show in the stat sheet ,but it is real and opens up others
