    Forte keys revived Bears offense

Matt Forte is no Gayle Sayers or Walter Payton, but Forte has accomplished something even those Bears greats never did. Forte is certainly not Marshall Faulk, but once again a pass-catching running back is the engine to a Mike Martz offense.

Forte kind of reminds me of the former Vikings back Chuck Foreman. Similar size and capabilities. The only rap I have against him is his inability to pick up tough yardage on 3rd and short and goaline situations. He's an upright runner and just can't seem to generate the drive to move the pile. All in all though I'm more than happy to have him. He's a Neal Anderson kind of back who can burn you in the passing game and the running game.

The Blackhawks are on right now! I'm going to squeal like a piggy!

I don't remember Chuck Foreman. He was before my time. I can see Forte putting up Faulk-type numbers. He doesn't have the speed of Faulk, but that doesn't matter because he runs harder than him. Forte was pushing the pile against the Jets, and he's been doing that more so in the past couple of games than he's actually done for most of the season. Part of this has to do with the OL getting a good push for him to be able to go forward up the middle.

"Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune notes the Bears are the only team in football to run more than they have thrown in the last eight weeks. Forte’s versatility gives them an edge."

That is a crazy stat, and no one, NO ONE, would have guessed Martz would have done that. And it has been the key to this offense. The OL is far better at run blocking(not that they're great at it) then they are pass blocking, and it allows them breathing room when we do pass b/c the D is not sure what we are doing.

That's absolutely correct. No one could have foreseen Mike Martz running the ball a smidgen more than he passes it. I like a good power running game, especially when it becomes the feature way to put up points for a team's offense. This team is going back to old school Bears football, and I have to say that I like it a lot.
