Knox looks to join elite club

LAKE FOREST – Bears wide receiver Johnny Knox needs 40 receiving yards against the Green Bay Packers this weekend to become the 10th player in franchise history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a season.
Knox, 24, has caught 51 passes for 960 yards and five touchdowns this season.
The most recent Bears receiver to notch 1,000 yards was Marty Booker in 2002.
Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said players could not worry about statistics heading into Sunday’s game.
“We’ve got to win the game,” Cutler said. “Whatever it takes. We’ll see how it goes. Whenever you start focusing on that stuff, it gets hard sometimes. We just have to let it come and if it happens, it happens.”
Booker is one of three players to record two 1,000-yard seasons with the Bears. Harlon Hill and Curtis Conway also accomplished the feat.
Team players: Bears linebackers Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs earned Pro Bowl nods this week, but defensive tackle Anthony Adams joked that he knew who the real stars were on the defense.
“I think the guys up front did a great job for Urlacher to get the Pro Bowl recognition,” Adams said with a smile. “Hats off to all those guys – Matt Toeaina, Tommie Harris, Israel Idonije, Anthony Adams – you know, guys like that, to allow Brian to make all those tackles.
“ ‘Hey, I’ll take this double team! You go and make the tackle, Urlacher!’ ”
Adams has been quite generous this season. He has made 31 tackles while allowing Urlacher to make 141.
Good decision: Packers linebacker Clay Matthews, who is tied for third in the NFL with 12˝ sacks, has surpassed his rookie total of 10 sacks with a game to go.
Six years ago, Matthews couldn’t get a scholarship offer to play college football. He walked on at USC before eventually earning a scholarship followed by a first-round draft pick by Green Bay.
“I have a family that’s rich in history there, so it just seemed like the right fit,” Matthews said. “Obviously, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into in regards to working my way into the starting lineup and potentially trying to make it to the NFL, but I stuck with it, and here we are.”
Injury update: Bears linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa (knee) and center Olin Kreutz (not injury related) returned to practice Thursday.

Love me some Knox, but it seems to me he gets the most attention from opposing defenses of any of our receivers. Hope he and Forte get past their benchmarks this weekend.

Curtis Conway was one of my favorite Bears recievers....if our O could have stayed healthy back then it could have done some real damage.

the Robinson-Booker combo was pretty sweet too until Robinson got hurt.

he'll get it, and then he'll break the 2000 yard mark THE SAME GAME

I think if our o-line gets fixed the numbers will increase. I like how he makes a mistake and does not let it effects the rest of the game. He bounces back and makes up for it, instead of keep going down the drain.

dabears54, you may disagree, but the benchmark for yards is probably 1200. Don't get me wrong, I hope Knox gets 1000+ receiving yards and 1000 yards is still impressive, but the benchmark is 1200 (I read this in a John Mullin article, the benchmark that is).
Consider that back when there were still 12 game seasons 1000 yards was the benchmark. It only stands to reason that the benchmark goes up playing 25% more games.

Regardless of what the bench mark is, 1000 yards receiving and rushing is pretty impressive when you consider that at times, our offense was horrible this season.
