The times ive been impressed with Olsen is when we are in the Red Zone. Outside of that, he is marginal at best. If i were Martz, i would limit him to red zone plays only, and swap him with either Kellen Davis or Dez Clark in other instances. BRING BACK THE DEZ!!!

. If not, trade him for a big WR like Vincent Jackson, or a decent O-lineman.
We already have our own underachieving TE for next year in Fasano and there is no way in hell you could get Jackson for Olsen

phin some people forget the existence of Gates who has been injured all season and still did better then Olsen. And even if Olsen was as good as his legend why didnt teams offer up more then a 5th rounder for him last year before the draft? His stock certainly hasnt gone up thanks to this season. People just have to face facts when they say TEs dont matter in Martz system they really dont. Go ask Vernon Davis

Olsen has been just like every other offensive player not name Forte or Cutler. Knox had his stretch where he was non existent. Hester has been sporadic, showing up for a big play on offense, and only being sighted on ST's when he's breaking ankles, and doing unspeakable things to opposing players pride. Olsen has made some pretty amazing catches this year, and while I'm not ready to crown him the next great TE of the league (and I'm a little lost on where this idea that Olsen is treated as a god thing came from) but I do think Olsen and the rest of the recieving core is gonna have a break out season next year so long as we don't send anyone packing.

Obviously we differ on opinions on his talents. But if you were the Chargers gm would you trade Jackson for Olsen lol........for real. Even if they didnt have Gates would you trade Olsen for Jackson?

I think he's much better blocking this year. Especially as an H back in the run game

Olsen's a decent tight end. Maybe the best pass catcher we've had at that spot since Ditka. This years he has improved his blocking and that was his biggest detraction in this offense. Martz like him and Cutler likes him he's going nowhere soon. It's a shame that we didn't see more of Des Clark this season but you just knew that Manu would play. We didn't sign him to make him inactive every game. Davis also needs some playing time because he'll be the one on the bubble next year. Clark will retire and I can't see us keeping 4 TE's or even 3 for that matter. We need the roster spots for more depth on the Oline and WR.

ding
if Olsen were as he was advertised when we drafted him, I wouldn't have much of a problem
when it really comes down to it, here are the essential things to look at for a TE:
Size
Speed
Hands
Blocking
Route Running
Physicality After the Catch
here is how Olsen grades out on each, on a scale of 1-5 w/3 being average:
Size - 5
Speed - 5
Hands - 2
Blocking - 3
Route Running - 3
Physicality After the Catch - 1
the guy is a nothing TE... he should be cut after the season to clear up a roster spot
and to specifically answer the original question: he has 0 trade value, couldn't get a 7th rounder for him b/c he sucks
-
and to follow up just a little bit more
I believe many of us posters called this well before the start of the season
simple fact is that we get 5 skill positions players out there, and you are going to want to have the 5 best of them out there at once
right now, the bottom line is that Forte, Bennett, and Knox are the only 3 locks of those 5... beyond that, we'd need a blocking back (who should be Dez Clark or Manu) which would only leave us 1 slot left. Who would you rather have out there: Greg Olsen or Devin Hester? I know who I'd rather have.
