Have you ever heard of teams trading 2 players, pr a player and a draft pick for 1 better player?

Vincent Jackson is clearly unhappy in SD and they don't want to pay him. As soon as he's a UFA he will walk. In addition Gates can never play a whole season healthy and is always injured come playoff time, he's also getting older. Olsen is as physically gifted as any te in the league he just needs to be in the right system with a vet he can learn from, and having a good receiving te is very important for SD if gates is out.

they just gave Gates a new contract last offseason which made him the highest paid TE in nfl history. Do you still think they are looking to replace him? And Chargers can franchise Jackson so he has no choice to play for them

One thing that keeps popping into my mind is how effective Olsen can be when we create coverage mismatchs around him. His raw speed and size if used in the right way makes him more of an advantage than a disadvantage in this offense. A couple of examples are these.

    1) Flank him outside as a WR especially in the red zone. He may not have more speed than his cover corner but that won't be all that important on a short field. What he will have is a definite size advantage over the corner, especially guys who top out at 6' or less. Cutler needs a jump ball style guy down there and right now Olsen is about the best we have to offer at that spot. Imagine how the outcome of that first pick in the endzone may have come out differently had it been a 6'5" Olsen who Cutler was throwing to rather than 6' Johnny Knox. We've used him that way in the past and I think Martz should put that formation back into his game plans.

    2) Line him up as a slot receiver in a 4 receiver formation when we're not in the red zone. The opponent will either have to play a dime defense if they want him covered by a defensive back (he still has a size advantage) and that takes away a LB or DT and creates an option to run or pass giving Forte more room run out of that set. Or they decide to cover him with a LB which may create both a size and speed advantage for Olsen. In that case Martz should have him running seam routes upfield.

Olsen has improved his blocking somewhat but he'll never be known for that skill. What he is is a very talented pass catcher and if Martz just creates more mismatchs in his formations and puts them into the game plan I think we'll all be more than satisfied with Olsen as a TE.

Why did the redskins draft Fred Davis when they already have cooley? Like I said, he wouldn't replace gates only give him some plays off and fill in when he's injured which he always is. The Chargers didn't wanna pay VJ franchise money this year, and it's possible they can't afford to now or don't want a team cancer...we couldngo back and forth all day, I was just saying it was possible..much crazier things have been done in Fa before.
