“I don’t know if there’s a back playing any better than he is right now,” offensive coordinator Mike Martz said Wednesday. “He’s really going. He’s always been really good, been very impressive. But about five weeks ago, something happened. Maybe it was six weeks ago. But he just all of a sudden took it over.”
Forte topped 1,000 yards for the second time in three NFL seasons this year, rushing for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns on 237 carries. His average of 4.5 yards per attempt was the best by a Bears running back with at least 200 carries since Neal Anderson averaged 4.7 yards in 1989.
Forte became only the second player in franchise history to compile more than 1,000 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving, joining Hall of Famer Walter Payton. The 2008 first-round pick from Tulane also became the first Bears player to amass at least 1,600 yards from scrimmage in his first three seasons.
