So long Sudden Death, new Playoffs OT rules
Mightve missed it last March, but the NFL instituted new OT playoff rules for this season:
1.Game can not be won on a first possession FG.
If the game goes to OT, and the first team with possession scores a FG, then the other team will get possession. IF the 2nd team also scores a FG, then the next score wins the game.
2.Touchdown ends the game.
If the first team with possession scores a TD, game is over, 2nd team does not get possession. If 1st team scores a FG, and 2nd team scores a TD, then 2nd team wins the game.
3.Safeties and turnovers can end the game.
If the 1st team drives the field but misses the FG, and 2nd team gains possession but gets backed up into their endzone for a safety, team 1 wins.
If the first team scores a FG, then 2nd team gets possession, but then fumbles or throws an INT, then team 1 wins.
Those are the basic rules, but obviously there are way more scenarios, you can read over a lot of them here:

Overall, this should create some interesting playcalls in OT. No longer will 1st teams be settling for "FG range," alot of them now will strive for that TD to ensure 2nd team doesnt gain possession. Also, if first team scores a FG, then the 2nd team will have to play for 4th downs on every single play.

No problem. I figured the way this season has gone, there will probably be at least one OT game, and would be a shame for people to flip the channel after the first team scores a FG.

This will bring a new twist to if you decide to take the ball first in OT if you win the coin flip.
If you have a great defense, I would give them the ball first. Stop them from scoring then kick a FG to win.

Yeah, it will definitely make OT more interesting to watch.
Oh, and if you click the link, remember its ESPN, the typical Bears hatred is there, Bears lose 2 in their scenarios, including one involving Hester returning a kick 98y, but "losing possession of the ball" pfft.
But, brings up a good point...good to have Hester and solid Special teams. If Bears get ball 1st and Hester returns one, then game over.

Let's hope that happens, Jimmors!

The NFL is too complicated. they should have made it a first to 6 points

I actually liked the old sudden death rules myself, but that's just me being bird-brained to the majority of the people on this forum.

I hate the rule too, Nerrad. I think it puts the teams in double jeopardy. It's really stupid to play out a game like that.
