Do you think that the Bears will open up their wallets for three free agents?
Well theyve opened it up to get Cutler (both financially and with draft picks) as well as Peppers. And to some extent by signing CT and Manu. Whether or not they open their wallets is not the issue...WHO they spend it on will be.
I think with Tice here, hopefully he will have great input on who they should pursue, we only need probably one really good OL pickup like Mankins, or 2 lesser OL FAs that are still better then what we have now (imnot sure who all will be available this year), and spend most of our Draft picks on OL as well...maybe get one starter in round 1, and the rest as longer term projects for Tice to develop.

Well you can make the case that Manu is hurt but I'm going on the assumption they are in ok health.

manumamamama or whatever. maybe taylor's numbers would look better, if he could block

Manumaleuna and it's not even close IMO. He's contributed almost literally nothing wheras at least Taylor (stats aside) has contributed something. As was mentioned earlier ITT, Taylor is capable in blitz pickup, is a threat as a receiver out of the backfield and has been able to spell Forte (which is very valuable in itself).

What has been so disappointing for me with Chester Taylor has been the fact that can't even average 3.5-3.9 yards per carry. There is some logic to the old Woody Hayes philosophy of "three yards and a cloud of dust". If Taylor can average that with this offensive line being so bad (which again, I don't comprehend why he can't simply bounce the ball off tackle instead of Martz constantly calling RB Dive and ISO plays), our third down conversions this season would have gone far more smoothy.
But you are right, KML. I wish I could go back now and change my vote. Manumaleuna has been one big, fat slug all season and hasn't blocked anyone work a shit. It's a good thing that the Bears have Greg Olsen coming into his own as a blocker at TE because outside of Desmond Clark, who hasn't been used since I think Week 3, there are no good blocking TE's.

Second is Chester Taylor. Taylor had 112 rushes, 267 yds, and a historically awful 2.4 rushing average. The only thing that he's done well this year is give forte a breather. IMO, Adrian Peterson (former Bear) could have done as good if not better for a better bargain. You don't pay millions for a player who puts up practice squad rb numbers.
easily Manu. Taylor has more to do w/the o-line woes and his style of running - which is more of a patient, let the hole develop (ala Thomas Jones). Unfortunately, w/our line, usually no hole ever appears and Taylor just isn't the kind of runner to make something out of nothing.
Manu just sucks. He should be gone next year IMHO. No reason to keep him around, just release him and let Dez Clark work as the blocking back (or, draft a FB!).

Manu. Easy.
Our OL sucked big time. He was supposed to be a great blocking TE, and was essentially signed to be an extra lineman. Apparently he forgot how to block when he signed his name on the dotted line. Taylor was not used the way he was supposed to be.

Do you think that Desmond Clark actually remembers how to play football? He's been AWOL 3/4 of the season. It's a travesty that one dropped pass in the first Packer game cost him his job.

Yes Clark could have been FAR more viable than Manu. Could have shaved a few sacks off our total, caught some balls, and when Olsen wasn't showing up making his presence felt. I for one am not sold on using Manu or any of our TE's as FB's to block. Use a ACTUAL fullback already.

We should draft ourselves a fullback, for crying out loud. I think, though, that if we chose to go the free agency route, that Jacob Hester is available.
